Showcarsbodyparts???

Has anyone out there dealt with showcarsbodyparts.com from Toronto?
Back in February I ordered an aerowing & a ram air hood for my 88 GTA from them & sent a $500 deposit and have only got a classic "song & dance"
I wondered if there were any other stories out there I should know about.
thanks...Larry

Re: Showcarsbodyparts???

They (he) is really not in Toronto- but Bolton north of the Woodbridge/Brampton area.

I've have never, ever heard anything good about the speed or quality of work from there. The two times I visited there I got shuffled around and left to play with myself at the door for a good 45 minutes before leaving (the second time, the first I basically sat around for 15 minutes and left).

If you want some of that guy's product- physically go to his shop to see it and pick it up immediately (he used to appear at places like the Barrie Swap Meets- but that was years ago and he may not do that anymore- I have no idea). If he ain't got it on the shelf RIGHT NOW- you could wait, well forever.

Get your money back now. I have gathered the guy doesn't really play well when people are too polite- so maybe the threat of coming to his door and/or filing a lawsuit to get your money back would be in order.

Feel bad for you- but all I now is that every time "ShowCar Bodyparts" comes up it's either someone asking "Should I deal with..." or a story like yours. I have yet to hear anything genuinely positive about the place.

Re: Showcarsbodyparts???

Crazy Larry, Here is a positive for you. Positively try to get your money back as quickly as you can. I bought the areo wing from Showcars because I was trying to save a few bucks and the price seemed great, but six months later when I finally got the part for my 88 GTA and added up the phone call charges and UPS import charges I found that I paid almost the same as one from other sources. After a time they wouldn't even give me a good excuse ! Now let me tell you of the quality of this wing, the glass work looks like a beginner used the worst factory wing for a mold, ( wavy, crooked, inconsistent lines, etc. ) and failed to get a part that fits properly on the deck, that mounting holes don't line up--------------- shall I go on? I think you get the picture. Go get your money back!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are much better manufacturers building very fine products. Showcars should avoided in my opinion. I'm a retired body man and I spent over twenty hours on this wing trying to use it, but some things just don't fit and now after a year on the car it has a stress crack!!! Get your money back. Dave

Re: Showcarsbodyparts???

Hey,I was starting to get that feeling.
It's not what I wanted to hear but I'm not surprised.
I'd searched for a reasonably priced alternative but shipping to Canada was rediculous & was not able to find anything here.
I've left voice & e-mails requesting a refund with no results.
I paid with Paypal so I guess an e-mail to them will be next.
Thanks for the advice.

Re: Showcarsbodyparts???

Larry,

Sorry to hear about your experience. I know he ALWAYS has money problems. It's the old rob Peter (aka: Larry) to pay Paul. I used to work for UPS (no jokes or comments please)...anyway he would come it and use us to ship his product. Never had enough money to ship and his account was cancelled so he had to pay cash up front. You get the picture.

I have also heard of his work being of suspect quality. His reputation has not improved over the years.

Suggest you get you $$ back ASAP by all means at your disposal.

Good luck..............

Re: Showcarsbodyparts???

I have been told about this guy, I had called to inquire about a hood and I head to leave a message because he was with a customer( probly another person that was unhappy) and they have NEVER called me back , that was 3 weeks ago.

It is very hard to to find good parts up here so I've noticed, but everyone I know with aftermarket hoods have bought them from Harwood.

Just FYI.

Re: Showcarsbodyparts???

I wonder if the guy really has money problems- or something a bit more serious- like maybe inhaling too much/too many fibre resin chemicals for far too long. 20 years ago I worked in a Chrysler plant- and the guys in the paintshop that decided the breathing apparatus just "got in their way" weren't 'right in the head' inside of a couple years.

One of the reasons I suggest this is that a few years ago, a bunch of guys from the largest 2nd gen. site out there were trying to get together to order IROC-style front ends. The last ones mass-produced were from A&A, who stopped making them sometime in the early 90s. So, I have an original, unmolested A&A original that could be used to make a mold, and I offer up that I could loan it to the SCBP guy as I lived in the area (these guys had decided he might be a good bet, and he was apparently quite willing to do it). At least 2 people (from the U.S.) told him I'd be around to talk it over with him (i.e. get some assurances he wouldn't FUBAR up the original and such)- now, I didn't have an appointment, but the second time I went there (45 minutes sitting around) I was very clear with the office girl why I was there. Apparently the guy had zero interest in coming out to talk about how he could make some money (at least 12 guys had spoken with him about buying this part if he could copy it correctly) with little risk to him (the only risk he would be taking would be the costs of making a mold). I went back to the guys in the U.S. and stated I would have to try one more time- but the guy had better be available, then one of them told me that he had informed them that shipping of a fibreglass (i.e. heavy) IROC header to anywhere in the continental US would be "around $90.00". I almost hit the floor- the original piece, unpackaged, is about 5 feet wide, 2 feet high and 16" deep- and made out of urethane- which is alot lighter than fibreglass. When someone checked actual shipping costs to Ohio- it was going to be closer to $250 + brokerage, plus the actual cost of the part itself. At that point, people started to drift away from what would be a $500+ "novelty" item.

Anyways, was the SCBP guy lying about shipping costs, was he ignorant, or did the chemical fumes just eat away at his brain? Apparently it didn't matter- he had no real interest in getting involved in an activity that could have easily made him 3 or 4 grand right-off (minus his production costs) plus any additional future sales of the product.

Re: Showcarsbodyparts???

Wow
This was very similar to my story.
I e-mailed to say that I had 6 people at work (General Motors assembly) that were interested in different IROC &Trans Am parts, including one of his wide body kits, if I was satisfied with his work but he never responded.
Every time we speak on the phone he seems to be a very pleasant relaxed person & I accept that hopefully it will be a few more days.
I see that this must change..
Thanks...Larry
