I just got this mail...funny, ...i was just admiring those light covers on your car pics a few days ago, and wondering where you got them...If you don't need them,..E-mail me or PM me & I'll give you my address, Ismo.
They're yours Dodgy. Just let me know where to send them. Just remember, I don't think they'll help if you hit a moose! They might keep some of those giant mosquito's you got there in Thunder Bay from cracking your headlamps though! *hehehe*
I remember hitting one of those giant dragon flies up there in Thunder Bay. It went "Whap" on the windshield. I was about to put on the wipers to scrape it's carcass off the windshield when it picked itself up, gave me the finger and flew off! ;-)

Well... the day has finally come....MY CAR STARTED UP!! I'm a wiring genius! after all the rewiring..... At first try, it seemed to want to start, but then just click.. click.. clicked.. then a shot of gas down the carb,.. hook up the 'ol booster cables and charged it with the truck for 15 minutes,.. and.. VROOOM! now,.. I'll just set the timing, (water pump leaks through the bottom weep hole like a siv,.. maybe that's why the rad was empty? ha.. ha.. Now it's garage clean up time, and drive the MARO right on in!...it is "RESTORATION TIME" FOLKS,..WISH ME LUCK, AND I'LL START MY OWN LINK/THREAD soon thanks Knottybuoys.. you're great friends to have here on "TGO"...ISMO.
This thread started with a look at the wiring mess I've got to deal with. Sorta got sidelined with other projects but I'm back to the wiring. Having some trouble figuring out the strange symptoms my OEM stereo is exhibiting. See the other thread.
Still waiting for parts for the other parts of the project......

It's too late tonight for me to think the problem through... but until i do figure it out 4 U tomorrow,...check out this , right here on third gen tech board.. RE: Factory stereo wiring diagram needed ...(krisb410 posted..)
Ya know, life really suks sometimes. Yet another setback. Tranny in '99 Jimmy went for a crap last night. Just had it rebuilt 2 yrs ago and it appears it's toast again. It's not like I drive the sh*t outta the thing, mostly highway driving to work and back. Are these transmission that flimsy?
Just waiting for parts to arrive then I can get the Camaro on the road for the summer at least.
I had a '96 that is thankfully costing someone else tons of cash now. I had a transmission blow up after 5000km on a fresh rebuild. There is a seal between the trans proper and the rear transfer case. It is technically not part of the transmission (or so Mr. Transmission says). Anyhow, if the seal is cooked, the fluid from the trans gets into the transfer case, fills it, and gets spit out the vent tube of the transfer case, allowing your trans to go dry and chew itself to pieces. Mine went to far as to destroy the pump housing along with the rest of the trans. I bought the Jimmy from the trany shop as a 'used' car with a freshly rebuilt trans (by them). However, when it blew up, they told me it as a used car, so tough. Of course, they only told me this AFTER the truck was on the hoist and the trans was on the floor.
I now know how to take apart and put back together a hatch pull-down assembly. *sigh* Parts on order $$$
On the brighter side I got the trailer hitch on the kid's Jeep. It was a bit of a job. My piddly a$$'d 5 gal compressor & cheapy impact wrench just wasn't up to the task. That's his b'day present I guess!

My '91 did the same thing but I caught it in time. It started drinking tranny fluid and I couldn't figure out where it was going. When the fluid started getting low it just stopped going into overdrive, lots of warning. The funny part is that when the fluid spat out of the t-case, it sprayed on the exhaust and created one HELL of a smokeshow. It was really spectacular. That poor minivan on the offramp behind me, she got free undercoating that day... Hope her windows were up. lol
Progress is measured in small steps. Fabricated some mounting brackets out of angle alum. Took 10 mins. At least I can put this part of the project to bed and move on.
Other than the mini-jack you'd never know this wasn't 100% OEM. The clean signal from the MP3 player sounds pretty good even with crapped out old speakers. I've got a set of Infinity Kappa's for the front and am looking at a matching set on e-Bay for the sail panels. That'll be it for audio upgrades this year. I'd like to add an amp & sub next year. Need to focus efforts on getting this thing on the road. Still waiting for some key parts though! *sigh* Standby....
Looks good though, (got the grills..thanx a million,..I owe you a favor). What color/ code is your cars paint? I love that shade & wanted to paint mine that type of dark red/ burgundy color after all my work is completed. *(got the frt nose coming next week, +check out, "new webcam" pics on my site, car looks better now). Anyways, I think you'll be "CRUISING' this August 4 sure! GL.

Yup. E-bay seller "Thorig". Good guy, stands behind his products and helped me through the wiring issues. He's got two more up on auction now. Now that it's installed it's highly unlikely I'm gonna yank it out and take it apart, sorry! Knowing my luck I'd screw it up totally. No sense tempting fate!
thats fine, i know the pain it is sometimes to take interior apart i gonna buy from him and see how he does it. i found a way, but then i cant use the cassete player and comes with a little of too much bass. i have been looking at ur project from begining. turning sweet. making it a ride or a performance ride?
How's it going "MFaust89",.. try right here on TGO!..."BIG BAD JOHN" has the delco radio's done up with "Ipod" plug, (maybe he's finished moving + has them ready to sell again?),(if U don't want to pay $$$,..try some internet FIY sites). ... try thread: "Delco radios with Ipod inputs installed; both radioharness types, 82-92 + 89-92. GL.

the article i found was in other website. but in my receiver, i took off the cassete player. who needs it!? makes it heavier and less space to play with wires inside. thanks for the link

I think for now it's just gonna be a ride (date nights with the Boss Lady). With 175,000 miles on the clock the 5.7 is probably in need of a refresh sometime soon. The list of mods in my signature show just the Motorvation chip & MagnaFlow 3" catback. So far I'd like to pull the engine and have it refreshed or buy a shortblock and have the heads reconditioned. Port & Polish the heads, intake & runners. I also want to do an LS1 brake upgrade all around. I hate the spongy brakes on these cars. After that I don't know, some body work and a repaint is definitely in order but that's a couple of yrs down the road.
How's the build going? I see there's ALOT to do but you are ahead of the game! Sounds like you are about ready for ! Have fun-- you EARNED IT!
Not quite there just yet. Got the frame section today. I'll prep it for welding and get it to the shop next week. I know it's going to need emergency brake cables but what else I'm not sure. They guy who's doing the welding is also a mechanic so he'll safety check it at the same time. Hopefully we'll be on the road in 10 days to two weeks.
Did my first dashpad R&R today. Pulled out a crapped out pair of Clarion's
and installed the Kappa's.
The 6X9's for the sail panels should be in next week. The improvement in the front channels was impressive for an old OEM deck.
Also R&R'd the tail lights which were all cracked & split. Cleaned it out and it's ready to go to the shop for welding & safety check. Won't be long now!
So I've actually been a little afraid to do this till now. I hope the ole' lady doesn't read this but here's a "guestimate" of what I've put into this thing already. These numbers don't include US currency conversion, shipping, or taxes....

Grand total $3,619.00
So if you add another 25% for exchange, shipping & taxes the total would be a little over $4500.00
NOT BAD!!,..I just spent $185.00 for 1 door , $144.00 for 1 window,..$570.00 for the other door.....HEY!..wait a minute..isn't this the "Bob Villa",..."how to build a 2-car garage for your third gen" FORUM? ...The speakers look great,..you're pulling off a stellar build my good man!..on the road legal like very soon now. And yes, I hope your wife doesn't see this either..I've been married for 10 years..and i can tell you,..after that spending spree,..you wouldn't be able to afford the hospital bills!..even with "Ontario" health coverage!..... (p.s. few more days + garage will be ready 4 my "project" to enter!).(will post pics soon)
I've reached what I believe is a milestone (at least the ole' Lady thinks so). Other than the seats which will go in the car on final assembly I have "NO" parts left in my living room! They're all installed on or in the car!!!
See the list below, that stuff sat in the living room for quite awhile. There are a few lil' things that can't go in the car until after the smog check, Motorvation chip, thermostat & fan switch but they don't count!

Good show! .. Ever notice it all just takes that extra 3-4 weeks to accomplish, no matter how organized you are?.. end result is worth all the turmoil though,.. you've done a great job "R", and should be proud of yourselves...how many wives do you know that would learn how to "WELD!", for a CAR! See..everyone benefits.*(p.s. does the wife get to drive the"CREATION"?) .
congrats, I'm still plugging away on an 86 iroc clone after 2 yrs, i'm just about ready to go get a tank of gas and take it around the (country) block. Gonna bring my cell phone just in case though. If you don't mind my asking, where did you find door top rails for $51. Best I could find was a place in Georgia for $125.

Thnx Brian.
I got them off of e-Bay. Seller ID chevy-man7700. I nabbed them and the roller shade at the same time. It's all about timing and constantly looking. One trick I use is to change the order of the listings when I search. Use the "Sort By" option and select "Time: Newly Listed". Then you can spot the stuff that's just gone up and if you're lucky you can get some deals with "Buy It Now" or just keep watching the auctions.
thanks for the tips, i'll keep plugging away. I put new carpets, seats and headliner in the car. then you start to notice all the other stuff that isn't quite up to par...

Good luck with your searching Brian, if there's anything I can do to help just ask.
Yeah I've got a couple of new nit-picks like sail panels and door panels but those will have to wait till next year. I'm hoping a good steam clean will brighten them up just a bit for now.
Update: The Ole' Girl and I went for a ride in the IROC tonight. I got the temp permit so we can move the car around to get the work done on it. She actually took me out to dinner! Bonus! Next week it'll be in the shop all week getting prepped for safety check.
Issues I see from tonight's test drive that'll need to be addressed for safety check.
Steering. Slight pull to the right. Alignment likely required.
Brakes. Pull to left, probably seized caliper. Brakes are brand new so should just need a good cleaning.
Something grinding in the right rear wheel. Dust shield maybe.
Emergency brake. Doesn't work. Likely seized up.
The car still wants to run. It hasn't quite got the "UMPH" a brand new one has but it's got some get-up-and-go. Still catches a lil' bit of rubber going into second gear! The Motorvation Stage II chip will help breath some life back into the ole 5.7.
The other good news I got tonight when I got the permit is there's no smog test required on this age car! Wohooooo! That's a big relief.
I dropped a screwdriver tip into the dash when I put the new speakers in. Now it rattles! Gonna have to go fishin' for that.
$50 in Premium (91 octane) to fill the lil' pig up!
Forgot to mention. As we were leaving the crescent last night a bunch of kids on a porch yelled at us; "Hey Grandpa, Let her go!". Grandpa my a$$. I obliged them a little bit!
Ahhhhhhhhh! 18 years and many thousands of dollars and we've had our first night out with the IROC. The ole' girl and I took a little tour to Brockville (a local city) and cruised into the A&W for a burger & root beer!
Just waiting for one more brake line and the safety is done. That'll happen Tuesday.
Tomorrow I get to put the whole interior back together which I'm looking forward too 'cause I haven't seen all the seats installed yet. The only stumbling block is a seat track for the passenger side but a quick run to the junk yard should fix that!
Look'in good 'ol boy! what do you mean it'll never be a show piece?...SHE'S a "10" in my books. (I've been spending $$$ and time installing my 10'x7' garage door and hardware...cars going in soon ..I hope!). All I can say is.. GOOD JOB "Knottybuoys"!!!
Most of the interior is back together. Just one door cap and the plastics for the drivers seat to go.
All the speakers have been replaced with Infinity Kappa's. Sounds good. Left rear seat belt won't retract. Need screws to mount the hush panels. Still looking for a white globe for one if anybody's got one kicking around.
Well shoot!! What are you going to do for fun now? You got the PDQ plate, drives great, interrior done, grins from ear to ear... HAHA LOL CONGRATS!! Enjoy the fruit of your labor!! ( & your MRS. too ) My hat's off to you.

Thanks Fella's. I really do appreciate your kind comments. You too Dodgy!
The next project is going to be a lot more involved. We've been planning to build our next boat for the last 5 years. My basement is full of parts so that when we do start we won't have to chase down stuff. Got a lot of deals which will make the project a little more economical, if I can use that word.
This is what it will look like....
The original design is 28'. We're planning on stretching it to 31 1/2' for more living space. It'll be built in stitch & glue plywood & fiberglass but I'm considering basalt fabrics instead, cheaper, stronger, lighter. Not that it matters this is a displacement hull and will have a top speed of about 8 knots. That's just about 9 MPH for you fella's!
