I apologize if this idea has been discussed before - I did a search and I didn't find anything.

I've read that people are cutting the braces on their hoods and milling the plenum to get the stealth ram to fit under the firebird hood. I was looking at the pictures of the HSR install in GMHTP and I had a different idea....why not mill the top of the intake base?

Obviously, that plenum sits very high because the base is so tall. If one were to remove material from the top of the intake base (where the plenum bolts on) it would sit lower. Sure, you'd lose a small amount of runner length, but not much. From the pictures, it looks as if the plenum could sit lower on the base and still not interfere with anything.

For those of you that actually have the HSR, do you think this is possible? I've never seen one up close....only in pictures.

It has been discussed, and i think someone might have even tried it. But it has it's own problems. IIRC you get into interference with just about everything from the fuel rails to the coolant outlet if you try to drop the plenum lower.

Maybe someone who followed that closer can chime in.

im looking at my HSR right now, (still not installed), and it looksl ike you could mill off about 1/4", the plenum will not interfere with the rails, the problem will be the bottom of the TB and the coolant neck. I dont have that stuff on mine so I cant see.

The T/B linkage and the front fuel fitting is a tight fit as it is (as you open the throttle). You couldn't drop it much without interference and I used the XRP fittings that have less bulk than the Holley fittings. I'm sure if there's a will there's a way. Sometimes it costs more than it should though.

This should help you buddy.
You need to use the old style throttle cable and throttle body which is a snap to convert to if you have a late model thirdgen.
In addition to the instructions on the page, I forgot to mention that you also need to cut off the throttle body coolant nipple.
