TPI doesnt work well with Vortec heads... IS THIS TRUE?

i was told that vortec heads intake ports have .240" taller openings than the TPI intakes.and that this port misalignment would not seal up. is this true?
can i port my intake to make it fit?

you are in luck man i belive some time this week they are going to introduce a vortec tpi intake base. that will alow you to use the vortec heads and tpi. they will work well together the torque will be astounding.

Engine: 355 TPI, 3.1L V6
Transmission: 700R4 in both
My friend has a set of Vortech heads on his 350 TPI Iroc-Z!! He has the emission legal vortech heads and they work just fine!! I'm not sure about the port size but even IF the port on the head is taller they'll still bolt up...you'll just get better performance by porting the intake to match!! Oh yeah, if you go with the vortech heads, change the springs....he said they suck!!

Just thoght you guys would like to know that SPDC does not have them yet I called today and they sais that it will probly be in march or april befor it we be in now and in case you want to know this time they said the price would be 480 last time I talked to them in December they told me 430 I dont know if we will see their base any time soon but it is still posible to use those heads I have a 87 gta with fastburn heads and they have the same intake ports as the vortec heads If you want to use those heads you can modify your base to work I posted once before that if needed I could post how to do this but no one responded to post so I didnt if you would like to give it a try let me know and I will explain to you how to do it or for 125 I will do it for you and beliveme I will not make a dime for doing it at that price. will be 30 cheaper if you have a vet or 1986 or prior base so the center bolt holes do not have to be machined or you can drill them your self and save the 30 dollers but I recomend leting a machine shop do it.As soon as I get 500 miles on my engine I will take it to a dyno and let you know what it put out.

LT4 hot cam kit with 1.6 roller rokers
GM fast burn heads wtih polished exostports and CC ,and intake ports have had ruff casting smothed out
TPI with a modified and ported gm base , SLP runners plenum, slp air foil jet afpr ,k/n air filter with homade cold air, Slp headers jet hot coted and custom chip,all the free stuff and no emissons .
I have ben looking in on getting the stuff to burn my own chip this will help out a lot I dont think the manifold is my performance problem but the chip is when i had the chip berned it had a comp cam in it with l98 vet heads. it does pull harder kow in the lower prms but I did chang to a TCI street fighter converter so its hard to comapair right know but when the motor gets broke in good then Ill be able to let you know more.

86TpiTransAm does your fraind have a after market base I tried to use one from an 86 vett, 86 transam, 87 transam and a 89 vett with no luck on my heads each base the intake runners are so small that the intake ports for the heads can be seen when the base is bolted on. I had to weld a 1/2 in bead all the way around the intake and then mill the it flat again then I could port it out to match the heads and just so you guys know you have to have the vortec heads drilled and tapped to except the standard GM intake bolt patern.
