OPINION ON CAM FOR 85 TPI 305 with MAF

I have a 1985 IROC-Z 305 tpi and was wondering which CAM would be best to be installed with the stock heads. Recently, I've been looking into the COMP XR276HR--would this cam be compatible with the stock heads and chip? The unit has MAF. Any opinions?

I was just reading somewhere on here I think that a stock LT1 cam could be good for like 25HP with stock heads and a tune. You have to grind off the optispark thing though.

That comp will need head work and tuning. Stock heads go computer controlled XE256 and get new valvesprings. Anything bigger is really a waste with the stock heads. LT1 wont work-it must be a flat tappet cam since 85 wasnt roller yet. This is assuming you have the stock motor/block.

85 is actually one of the bigger cams for a 305. I just put 1.6 roller tips on mine. Nice little gain.

I have read to stay under 210deg at .050 on the intake side to work with the stock computer. I just ordered the Lunati Voodoo 250 cam for my 85 TPI 305. My car is a daily driver, so I am keeping my computer stock.

That Lunati cam good for my 86 peanut cammed 305 tpi? Or should I stick with my first choice of the Summit racing tpi cam/lifter/spring combo?

that should work great for your 85. the vortec swap would be another great idea for your 305

get some comp #981 springs. they'll work with your stock heads no problem.

Re: OPINION ON CAM FOR 85 TPI 305 with MAF

Could someone recommend a great cam for the 305 TPI roller engine? I have ported and polished stock heads, mildly ported plenum, with everything port matched. TES headers, high flow cat, flowmaster, descreened and de-finned MAF, MSD, T5, 3.42 borg rear.
