fuel pump questions

Ok i would like to get all the imput i can get on this subject before i put my tank back into the car. My question is can you run an 255 lph pump with the investment of planning on running another motor later on but your still running a stock 350 tpi motor. would that hurt the pump? also i have braided stainless steel -6 lines, stock line is all gone. could that hurt anything? like i posted in the fuel pressure question thread, my car was running at 45.5 at idle with the hose connected, so i set my bbk pump at that when first installed. later at school i was dyno testing it and it made the most power at 40 psi at idle with the hose connected. can this hurt anything? also can a bad canister purge valve cause a pump to go bad.

The other part of my question is that has anybody had any trouble with what seems to be that the pump maybe getting to hot and therefore it cuts out, which is what my bbk was doing. any pumps that i should stay away from. i have this pump:http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku installed in the tank but havent ran the pump yet. What are some good pumps that havent cut out yet. Didnt know if i should run it or get something else from what i have heard. Carter is one i have heard of

Re: fuel pump questions

ive had that same holley fuel pump for 2 months now, and it works fine. my engine is a stock 350 tpi, and it makes no difference. i called up holley, and they said that it would be no problem. i hear that the stock regulator will blow at 65psi, and i also have my car at 40psi at idle with vacuum. i would think that the pump or regulator will go before a fuel line blows, but im not too sure. i dont know about a purge valve either, but you should change your fuel filter often, becasue a clogged filter will burn out the pum and/or cause you to run lean.

Re: fuel pump questions

well the fitler is new when i installed all the new line. The reason i ask about the -6 line is bc maybe it is straining the pump to pressurize the extra volume that the -6 lines have over stock? Well i guess i will run with the holley then and see what happens.

tmviper what do you think, if you know what i mean about this valve called a canister purge valve:http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,.../selectZip.htm the line from the tank to this valve was blocked completely closed with the pellet stuff in the canister. Do you think this could make the pump go out early. Just a personal opinion question.

Re: fuel pump questions

im not sure about that, i took my canister out and just joined the vacuum lines around it so it wouldn't leak.no problems for me, but i dont know how it works. as for the -6 lines, if your putting a holley pump in there, call up holley. if your going with accel, call them, etc. .i dont think it will hurt the pump, it might lessen the pressure a bit, which can be fixed via adjustable fuel pressure regulator, but it is always a good idea to call up manufacturers and get the low down from them before doing anything to your car.

Re: fuel pump questions

Well how did you eliminate your canister to still make it work properly. How did u eliminate the smell of fuel too. Could i get pictures? Are you still using that valve that i put a link for even though your canister is gone. What is the proper way to get rid of the canister bc the pellets are falling out of it anyway.

Re: fuel pump questions

those high perfromance pumps are designed to work with stock motors, the pump is capable of flowing 255lph but the regulator is wat controls the amout of fuel to the injectors. it will support future upgrades that require more fuel where your stock pump could not.

the braided fuel lines would not affect anything, they are good hoses , as long as u havent crimped or bent them too sharply.

Re: fuel pump questions

has anyone else eliminated their fuel canister and how did you run the vacuum lines to make it work properly and no fuel smell? Did you also have this valve still ran in the line pathway http://www.autozone.com/R,APP303927/...ductDetail.htm
