86 305 TPI: Pulling heads this weekend, then bringing them to a machine shop...
Hey Guys,
I am continuing my engine tear down, and I am going to pull the heads this weekend. Going to bring them to a local auto machine shop, and have them ported, etc. Any recommendations on what else I should have done to them? These are the stock LB9 1986 305 TPI heads.
* I am not interested in replacing the heads...want to keep the stockers, and have them machined.
Also going to ask the guy to recommend a camshaft to me. If you have any recommendations, please do share. I want to keep it street legal, but I want to feel some additional juice when I punch it. heheh.

im doing the same thing on my 86 and my cam is going to be the .440-.454 cam ... summit sells it .. crane cams 113932 for 225.. the trick flow cam is almost identical except for lobe seperation and is 150.00 part#tfs-k31401000.. the crane is listed for 1600-5200 and the tfs is listed 1900-4900 rpm.. i would choose the crane if your doing porting heads and intake ..

It's a flat tappet engine. The standard 204/214 on a budget is good, the 214/224 is probably better. The problem is that you have the peanut cam. That alone should net you 25hp probably maybe even more provided the tune goes with it.
In regards to the heads, bowl job, 3 angle valve job and back cutting. Also use posititive seals on the exhausts and intakes. no more "chevy puff"
