85 TPI?

I am putting a 400 small block in an 95 GMC van. My question is, can I use an 85 TPI system on this engine, or do I need to find a 86 up for my engine? Please let me know and thank you so much for the help, William

Re: 85 TPI?

If you are referring to the complete system then yes, go for an 86 or newer setup. The ECM for the 85 system has a stand alone MAF controller and there is not much, if any, support for the 870 ECMs. If you don't want to fool around with MAF, get a 90 or 91 TPI setup that uses a MAP sensor instead of a MAF. The manifold center 4 bolt holes may need to be modified (drilled at a slightly different angle which can easily be done with a hand drill) if using the stock heads from the 400. If you use after market heads or stock type heads as replacements, just get 86 and later "center bolt" style heads and the manifold will bolt up no problem. HTH!
