if i make hard turns there is a harsh poping sound that comes from my wheels, at first i though the wheels were simply loose but after trying to tighten then i realized that wasnt it at all.. if you pull on the wheels while the car is in the air it makes the poping sound as if its coming from in back of the wheel.. could the axles be loose or something? i really have no clue when it comes to rears... any ides? both sides do it.. its a ****ty origional v6 open rear with drum brakes.. dunno how many miles on it but i'd guess about 150kish... anybody?

with that many miles it would be a good idea to get a disk brake posi rear end is yours need major rebuilding..

Could be your rear wheel bearings. Is this a 9 bolt or 10 bolt. On the 10 bolt the wheel bearings are easy to change but you have to pull the axles to do it, on the 9 bolt you have to have a puller and it is a little more tricky.

If I hear what your saying correctly, when you pull on the wheel (in and out) it makes this sound. Also when you go around corners, like in a parking lot or dips in a driveway, it makes this sound....

This is related to the 'C-clip' (the device that retains your axle) that is located on the end of your axle inside the differential. This sound is quite normal, although, not everyone has this. It is usually caused by thickness of the clip itself being too thin or the side gear and/or its shim being worn. It could also be a combintaion of both. But dont fret to much, I have had new cars with 20 miles on them make the same noise. The axle end play has a certain +/- limit from the factory. You can help this by installing either thicker c-clip's and/or thicker sidegear shims.

I like to keep end play on a disc rear between 0 and 0.005...+/- 0.003. On a drum rear between 0.005 and 0.015....but I have seen it up to 1/8".

Sounds a lot like when the eaton gov-lock locker blew in that 3.73/posi/disc axle I swapped in from an '84 trans am. I heard the banging noise as I made left turns. One day, it was really bad, so I went into a parking lot, and did slow figure 8's while leaning out the door. As soon as I saw that left rear tire pop out about an inch from the normal position, I stopped the car, figured out a way to get home by only making right hand turns (try that one day, it's a pain in the butt), mapped it out, and went straight home. Now I'm back on a 3.42/open/drum axle... (sigh)

So are you sure that axle's an open rear, and not an 84-85 Gov-lock locker? You're sure it came from a v6?

A Gov-loc is not a locker...its a limited slip.
