7.5 rear questions
I'm helping a friend with his 85 305(now 350)IROC. It has an open rear. He thinks they are supposed to be 26 splines. Are the Gov Loc carriers out of the 7.5 S-10s and Astor vans the same spline? He thought they were were 28 so not a bolt in, he has one for free. A recent Car Craft article stated they were all 28 splines.
Any good source for "take outs" he's on a real tight budget. Needs new injectors then maybe a PROM for the 350 with a mild Comp in it. The 305 injectors are running a little lean even with a Vette PROM he got.
I'm a second gen guy and can tell you about 10 and 12 bolts and tinkering carbs so I'm not alot of help.

Car Craft is wrong, if they said that.
There were no "features from the future" installed in the S truck line, any more than there were in the F car line.
The S trucks had 26-spline axles until late 89 production, just like the F cars. They switched over to 28 spline at about the same time as the F cars.
A Gov-Lock is a bad idea behind a V8.
There is no source I know of for 26-spline "take-outs"; people were through taking them out about 15 years ago, so unless you can find somebody that's stockpiled them all these years, he's not going to be able to go that route. Cheapest route will be to either get the SLP 28-spline "take-out" and the axles out of a 90-92 6-cyl rear; or get an Auburn or Eaton or Powertrax or whatever.
