new transmission

the other day i went to back out of my driveway and it just didnt move like it was in neutral. got out check the trans fluid.... it was brown ish black......at that point i kinda felt sick knowing thats not a good sign. but i was looking around for 700r4 on ebay and i see rebuilt ones for around750$ and then there are high performance trans for about $1200, i wanna know what kind of quality do you think id get from ordering one of ebay? i work at a radiator shop so i can always order one for cost from a few major car parts companies but im not sure what the price is yet....... i also want to know how difficult is it to change out my self. ive swapped a few trans but they were in far older cars (1966 buick skylark) (1979 chevy pickup). i have accsess to a lift and a transmission jack. i guess i just want to hear how this wetn for any one else thats done it.

You've got a lift and a trans jack? It's not going to be very hard! If I can do it crawling around on the ground with jackstands holding up the car then I think you can manage!

Seriously, the mechanics of it is the same as what you have worked on before, the only exception it the torque arm, which unhooks with one bolt. Then just move the arm out of the mount and up against the trans tunnel.
