T5 hard shifts

Hey guys i recently put a junkyard T5 in my GTA. Before we put it up all we did was make sure the gears were there and the other basics we did not tear it down to rebuild. We also noticed that the previous owner had 90 weight oil or something real thick in there. i didn't know at the time what these things took so i hust left it in there. I know now they need ATF but thought to myself if the oil was thick in there, it was put in for a reason. Well anyway, my problem is when the trans heats up it gets Very Very hard to put in gear. But, the trans makes absolutely no noise and the synchros feel healthy (no crunching, not even in reverse <- thats weird). I was wondering if the heavy oil would make it harder to shift, but shouldnt it be hard at first and easier as it heats up? the car feels absolutely fine until it runs at operating temperature for 10 minutes or so. I think fluid or a shift fork that might expand as it gets hot. Thanks in advance guys.

what year T5 did you stick in there? I have seen some that run with the oil. really it shouldn't hurt it I would think, it was probably stuck in there by the previous owner because he had an old manual. I remember my fathers 65 chevy used gear oil in it. If you feel likw you do not really want to take chances with it. just drain it out.. and then flush it. then put the ATF in it. I still ave some Manual transmission fluid in a bottle years old lol. looks alot like oil to me lol.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Sounds like it needs a new pilot bearing, in the end of the crank. Hoepfully before the trans gets ruined.

What kind did you put in it; a bushing, or a bearing?

Its got a pilot bearing, put a brand new one in, old trans had a real ugly bushing.

Car: projects.......
I won't run a pilot bearing. I've seen several break and eat a trans/clutch. Bushing for me....
Anyhow, I'd agree with changing the fluid. If it's multi-grade gear oil, just like multi-grade motor oil, it supposedly thickens at higher temps.
