700R4 Cooling??

Hey, I'm not too familiar how the cooling system works in these cars, I never really looked at the radiator until yesterday, I've only owned the car for about a year. But I noticed there are 2 lines going into the radiator from the transmission? From what I've read it is some kind of cooling system for the trans through the radiator. Anyone here that can explain how this works to me cause I've never seen/heard of this setup before.

Not much to explain... You pretty much summed it up. 2 lines from tranny to radiator, 1 in, 1 out. They go thru the radiator to cool the transmission fluid.

Ok so it this just like a line that has it's own separate core going through the radiator for the trans fluid?

Right on then. Well one other question. I am not doing anything major for performance upgrades in the near future, maybe a possability of a 3.73 gear in the back. I'm planning on bring it to the strip over the summer after I get over all the little tuneups I need to do to it, I was just wondering if this cooling would be sufficient, because I was planning on putting in an external cooler prior to knowing about the rad cooling. Maybe install an external one with this one? Or it that completely unnecessary?

i would install an external cool anyways. Better to keep your tranny as cool as possible b/c heat is the numero uno killer of trannies. So that being said i have no idea on how to install and where you would put it so that it would remain as cool as possible. Someone will chime in and help out here soon

Using the external cooler inline with the factory cooler is the best setup for max cooling capacity.Get a cooler rated for your application and also the plate style coolers are the better choice to go with,IMHO.The only thing i forgoet is the routing of the lines - ie;factory cooler then external or external then factory. There's an article in the TGO Tech section but the site it's linked to is down this morning.
