Noisy Eaton TrueTrac?
Every since I rebuilt my car I've noticed a rattling noise coming from the rear of my car on the highway at part-throttle. It seems to go away when I either let off the gas or put my foot into it. I'm beginning to think its the diff. Does anyone else's truetrac make any noise? It might especially loud because I have no carpet right now.

Re: Noisy Eaton TrueTrac?
Rattling? Do you remember how you set up the rear? Backspacing value (was it set up very tight or very loose or...?), amount of torque to turn the pinion? (Since you used a solid spacer eh?)
I can't think of anything that would cause a rattle, unless something fell off...? Does it sound like something heavy rattling? ie, not a heat shield or sway bar or something silly? A quick visual can rule out all that. Otherwise Pull the cover and take a look for anything I suppose.

Re: Noisy Eaton TrueTrac?
It almost sounds like its ratcheting and totally dependent on the accelerator pedal.
I had the rear rebuilt by a local shop. I just wanted to see if they're just a little noisy or not, before I take it back there.

Do you have the same size tire on both sides and are they both inflated to the same PSI.

I noticed you have Richmonds and they may create noise but not a ratchety type noise. The Tru-Trac does use gears instead of clutches but I never heard of them making noise.
One quick thought, did you check to see if there was enough fluid?
Also, jack up the rear and put the car in N and spin a tire and see if the noise is still there. It may be like Sonix stated, something like the sway bar or heat shield.

You may want to try what Crazy suggested but with the car running and in gear. Obviously make sure the tires are off the ground. Have a friend run the gas and brake while you listen.

Re: Noisy Eaton TrueTrac?
Hmm guess maybe somethings weird with mine then. I haven't checked mine out yet, but I'm sure its something with the rear, maybe driveshaft. The Richmonds do whine at highway speeds, but this is different. I've rebuilt the back half and have been under there enough times I would have seen something weird with the heatshield, sway bar etc. Next week I'll check the level of oil and take it to the shop.
I have noticed a noise when I'm rolling slowly down the road synchronized with the speed of the car. Originally it was a problem with my front rotors weren't sitting flat on the hub, but I just fixed it last weekend.
I'll keep you guys posted, thanks.

I have TrueTrac in my IROC-Z for 10 years now and something was rattling in my car since I remember. Recently it got worse. It does it when coasting (slowing down to stoplights for example). Sounds like a can full of oil and nuts being rolled, but recently also started to knock louder...
I've seen similar cases described in other cars:

Did you find a fix for this problem?
