Need Help selecting the "right" torque converter

Well basically the time has come for me to buy an aftermarket converter. After talking with a couple of guys at the local speedshop I am now more confused , So i thought I'd leave it up to the digresion of fellow TGO members. Basically my combo is an 83' 350 4 bolt main block w/ Stock heads that have been ported and polished and a Comp cams 268h xtreme energy cam w/ the recommended valvetrain components a Holley 600 carb, Edelbrock performer RPM intake, and Full length Hedman Headers

The transmisson will be built in a "mild" performance sort of way. Obviously an aftermarket converter, and a shift kit, Possibly corvette cervos and a couple of other things. Eventually, I will have an aluminum driveshaft made and this goes to an LSD IROC 7.5'' rear with 3.73 gears

Oh also the addition of a 125 shot of nitrous may be in the future.

Well thank you in advance for any help and advice.

You need to pick a stall based on your cam spec and what your power would should be. And if your going to run nos you will need anti-ballon plates and all that fun stuff.

Re: Need Help selecting the "right" torque converter

I didnt meant to put the "h" behind the xe268 in my first post. I have an xtreme energy 268 cam. My cam spec's are

Cam Style:Hydraulic flat tappetBasic Operating RPM Range:1,600-5,800 RPMIntake Duration at 050 inch Lift:224Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift:230Duration at 050 inch Lift:224 int./230 exh.Advertised Intake Duration:268Advertised Exhaust Duration:280Advertised Duration:268 int./280 exh.Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio:0.509Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio:0.512Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio:0.509 int./0.512 exh. liftLobe Separation (degrees):110Intake Valve Lash (in):0.000Exhaust Valve Lash (in):0.000Grind Number:FS XE268H-10

My intake should work really well throughout that powerband.
I think I did a relativly good job selecting the engine componets it's just now that i'm on the tranny and torque converter i don't want it to be a slug at low or high rpms. I really want it to have good power from idle and pull hard until redline. So does anyone have any ideas on a torque converter? I was thinking something like an 1,800 stall? Would that work well with my OD tranny, 3.73's, and cam selection? or does anyone have a similar setup?

Re: Need Help selecting the "right" torque converter

I have a torque converter for sale. its a 2900 stall lockup with anti balloon plates for nitrous application. This worked very well on the streets and the strip. It an art Carr custom built for the 700 r4 with 3.73 gears. I paid 525 for it one year ago and only put 1,000 miles on it, so its basically new. Let me know if your interested at joeblue83@yahoo.com
by the way its 9.5 diameter

My guess is to get a converter for a 2500-3000stall range and make sure its for a nitrous application.

Re: Need Help selecting the "right" torque converter

I didnt get an email. And also what I told is just my opinion and is probably in the ball park. I would get a second opinion from comp cams just to be on the safe side.
