How to tell if posi is bad
I just bought a rear end out of an 84 trans am with disc brakes and i was wonder how to tell if the posi was bad in it. the guy who sold it to me never put it in a car so he didnt know anything about how it run he just knew that it did run. the rear end is out of the car so how would i go about checking if it is bad. Also did the 84 trans am come with 3.42. i spun the link where the drive shaft bolts up and ended up getting like 3 1/2 turns which equal out to be 3.42.

Have someone hold one axle while you try to turn the other one. If it turns easy then it is worn out. If it is hard to turn then it is probably still good. This is only true if you have the Auburn. If you have the Governor Lock then this won't work. The Governor Lock will require a visual inspection of the governor gears and other parts.
