Shifts way too late!!

If i punch it in my car it revs dangerously high and won't shift for a long time. I don't know why it does this. Any ideas?

could just need to adjust your detent cable. does it feel like its shifting late during normal driving

Double check your fluid level with the car warmed up, idling and on a level surface.
