Rear End Upgrade - BW 9 bolt 2.77 not cutting it
I want to change my rear end but dont want to spend a huge amount of cash. This is just a fun street car, no racing in the plans. (383 w/mini ram, WC T-5)
I currently have a BW 9 bolt with 2.77 posi. Pretty sure that means it has a 2-series carrier so a straight gear swap would require a new carrier.
The best deal I've found so far is just buying another used 9 bolt posi from Hawks with 3.73's. Anyone have a better route to go or have any good ideas?

Check with salvage yards. If you do find a good used one with a 3.27 or 3.42 make sure the axles are straight, no bent hubs. Also try to check the posi. Don't want a one wheel peel or the cones worn out. And by the way you do have a 2 series carrier. A 3.08 or larger are the 3 series carrier. Good luck! One more bit of info, The 9 bolt is a 3.70 gear not a 3.73.

I recently bought a 3.27s BW 9 bolt with good posi for $215 locally. With new sway bar links and bushings and maybe lower control arm bolts, its gonna be under $250.
Check your local craigs for good deals like I did.

You dont have to stick with the 9 bolt. Odds are you can find a good used 10 bolt with a set of 3.23's or 3.42's if you hunt the wrecking yards or classifieds. Might involve or include a new disk adapter plate from flynbye if you have disks now but, you have other rear end swap options. All of which will cost you something...
