T5 reassembly. Need sealing advice.

So, I had to take the trans apart because the reverse and 5th arm was missing the retaining clip (don't ask me how I found out) and I had to realign it. No signs of it anywhere in the case so I will have to find a new clip that fits the pin.

Now to my questions: What's the best way of sealing this thing up? I know the obvious "keep the case/tail housing/top cover contact surfaces clean and free of oil before sealing, apply plenty of RTV," but how about the bolts. I heard you need to apply the RTV to some of the bolts, too. Is this correct? If so, is it directly on the threads or just under the hex head on the bolts? Anywhere else I need to apply silicone?

One last querstion: what are the torque specs for the top cover and tail housing?

Thanks in advance, guys.

Re: T5 reassembly. Need sealing advice.

The only bolts that need sealer on the threads, are the ones that go all the way through the case into fluid. If memory serves, there's 3 of the extension housing bolts that need it, but I'm too lazy to go find one to look at. I think it's 3 nearer the top though. But it doesn't hurt to put it on ones that don't need it, so just spooge em all and move on.

Torque goes with hardware size, as always. The extension housing bolts being 10mm, need around 40-45 ft-lbs; the cover bolts being 6mm, need about 16 - 18 ft-lbs.

The clip is in the case; of that you may be 100% positive absolute take-it-to-the-bank ironclad guaranteed SURE. When you took the pivot pin out that it goes on thinking it was the fill plug, it popped off, and it's still in there. Most likely stuck to the magnet under the countergear. But if you decide to replace it, get the right thing; don't try to find one "that fits".

HA! You are correct on me thinking it was a fill plug and therefore proceeded to remove it. Can't fool the pros, I see.

Sounds like I have some feeling up to do inside that case. Thank you very much for help. You were the one I was hoping would reply to my post, sofakingdom. Cheers and happy New Year!
