Transmission identification

I just pulled a transmission out of my 1984 Pontiac Firebird with the 305 V8. As best I can tell – it is a TH 700R4 for transmission. It has a big MD8 cast into the bell housing on the passenger side.
Having trouble with the serial number though. As far as I can tell , pre 1987 they had two digit identifier for those transmissions.
The serial number either reads :
3ME422T
Or
3MF422T
The third digit wasn't stamped very well…
Can anybody help me with the exact identification on this transmission? I just took off the oil pan on the transmission this afternoon, and the new filter that came in the kit I ordered is slightly different from the one that I took out of the transmission…
