Sadness =o(

Well today I had the roof off and I was crusing to go pick up one of my female friends, and at a light I got next to a Toyota Celica, now sitting there I had no clue if it was a GT or GTS or what it was, but I did know it was stick, I knew that much. Well basically we left the light and I kept up with him for a little till I ran out first at 55k and went into second he kept on going until he shifted, and then just kept gaining... Kinda sucky. But I was happy in a sense to realize that it was at least a GTS, because I can understand that more considering it makes 180 @ 7600 RPM which is freaking nuts. I was going to post this in the other forum, but I was afraid to be eaten alive by the V8 guys, yes I know, had I have a 5.7L under my hood I could've spanked him, but I don't, and I can only have dreams. But what I do have is a nice looking car, and my american pride!! If it would have been the GT that beat me I would've cried I think b/c that makes 140 @ 6400 RPM which is what the 3.1L makes STOCK. Altough you still have to add in the weight and all, but I did lose, so in a sense I'm kinda sad. But I still have my pride!!!

Just thought I'd share my story.

Mark

Trust me man you wont beat ANYTHING newer then a STOCK 1990 car, I have a 86 with a moded 2.8 and all of my kills are older camaros or firebirds with 3.1's and 2.8's and I dont even have much money in it.
Do what I am doing get a ZZ4 350 HO crate engine, match port and polish the heads and intake, get some NGK spark plugs, MSD wires, electric water pump, stay with the electric fan, pull the A/C beef up the tranny and put some gear in the back and the only thing I would worry about is supras. Yeah its going to cost me money but I have NO smog equipment no back seats not power options AT ALL and will soon have a fiberglass ram air hood with a flowmaster 3 inch exhaust for the ZZ4 then I will bore it to a 355 add forged pistons and put a 100 shot of NOS on it.
I wont be worried about loosing after that. Yes you can get a 3.1 into the 12's but it will be breaking down alot and cost you ohh 8 grand. At least get a 3.4 v-6 that will bolt right in (PLUG FOR KED85 ) out of a 94 or so firebird or camaro and put 500 bucks into in and run a 14 second quarter mile
I am going for LOW 12's

Thanks for the replies guys

89camaroRSV6 - I've thought about that, but I don't know what exactly to do next, as far as I thought of I think I did pretty much all the bolt ons possible...?

86camarodriver - Well that is definately one route to go, and perhaps when I have the money I will do that. But as for not killing anything over 1990, I've killed many Cavaliers, Accords, Integras, Civics, just to name a few, but who knows. Trust me there is nothing that I would love more then to have one of those big bad-boys under my hood...

i know i've taken out my fair share of newer cars...but normally have much better luck with older cars. Thought i had a maxima, then he took off and gained about eh....20 car lenghts, 250hp apparently. lol.... Get some mods for big performance, and then go after smoe boyz, we actually beat a lot of cars on HP, and if not, we will normally take hthem in torque. But they have a great advantage in power/weight ratio.

Okay lets even thing up now. You want to win you will need to do the following:

Package 1 Valve Train Mods:

Crane 2030 Cam
1.52 Roller Tip Rockers
Doublle roller chain

Package 2 Exhaust

Dynomax Cat Back
High Flow Converter

Package 3 Suspension

Sphoon LCA’s
Sphoon Torque Arm
Sphoon Pan Hard Rod

Package 4 Gearing

I recommend 4.10’s and a locker, but most will say 3.73’s work the best.

Package 5

MSD Coil
MSD 6A
MSD Wires
New Stock Plugs
Accel Ignition Module

Package 6

Nitrous 75HP

Package 7

Rebuild with a .040 over bore
3 angle valve job
Forged Pistons
Ported Cylinder heads and plenum

Package 8 Breaking
When you get here email me…

Now let anything 1990 and newer try you…

I know how ya feel about running out of the bolt-on's... I'm at the point where I need to do engine work (heads, intake, complete rebuild) to get more out of the car.

Definately look into some suspension parts... they'll make those twisty Pennsylvania backroads more exciting! Even just adding http://www.energysuspension.com polyurethane end links to your anti-sway-bars would make a drastic difference. (Look under their "Camaro" link.) I think you can get two sets, one for each bar, for about $35 from Summit Racing. Remember to put "ENS-" in front of the part #, and add a color code after it (G for Graphite=Black, R for Red, Y for Yellow, B for Blue)- keep in mind they might be out of stock on colors except for black (G).

You can also add the energy suspension torque arm bushing. I put one on when I dropped my trans, and wow, it really took the wiggle out of the back of the car. The car feels more sturdy just going straight!

Do you have a 3.42 rear? You might be able to score the whole axle for $100 from an 85-89 2.8 with automatic trans to get a 3.42/open/drum rear, and the swap wouldn't be that bad.

I'm installing another 3.4 under the hood of my 85 S-10 Blazer w/stock intake & HEADERS!!!!!

Swap in a 3.4, it really is a great solution all the way around!

Or buy a V-8 ride.

Thanks for the plug!! LOL!!

Wrong, celica have a "all-trac" or awd option, Most you see on the road all 2wd, but some have the "all-trac" option and those are mainly gt's and gts's. They are pretty fast.

yo buddy i mentioned SOME of them that too coupled...NOT ALL of them

most of them celicas u see on the road are 2WD --fiream is right

but some of their markings are silly for example the GT is faster than GTS (i think im right here)

basically so i wouldnt pick on the celicas unless i know its 2wd

Why are so many of you guys thinking it's cool to
wace a wicer:lala:

G0D!
I mean, pick on a MANLY CAR
Like a 1970 Superbird! You can easily win the drag race with that cars' stock engine setup
Give the Plymouth Superbird owner a couple car lengths to make him feel good!!
For laughs, challenge a 1982/1984 Corvette.
You can take that car easily!!

As far as the 2002 Celicas go the GT is slower then the GTS. The GT is 140 @ 6400 RPM. And the GTS is 180 @ 7600 RPM. The GTS is also a 6-speed I think if I remember correctly from reading.

200hp.
I have "195hp" in my 135,000 original mile Corvette.
Engine is tight, needs my 487X ported-polished head swap. All stock except headers, cast iron intake & original numbered Rochester 4 BBl.
It scoots really really well.
Will better shortly.
Ignition rebuild (installing a Accel CDI ignition set up in stock distributor) & the head swap coming up!
I'm using it for LA, CA cruising. Can't wait for the AC to work!!

I'll give ya the same story I can give in Corvette Forum.
I like my car original.
I have so many car projects ahead of the Corvette.
I MAY install/break in the 1970 LT-1 under the Corvette hood before I install it in the 1967 Camaro.
The Corvette frame is ready for high speed persuits. Just need redo steering system (not linkage), rear tires, alignment.
I do like the Corvette "tame" & stock.
Slow, no, I do not consider 124 MPH on a 28 year old Chevy original unopened 131,000 mi. drivetrain, that poor.
Besides, I love the smiles I get crusing down Sunset Blvd on Summer days.
