Contact Mr Fred Gerle at PaceSetter exhaust systems.
602-226-1964
Inform him you know about the 3rd Gen V6 High performance Exhaust System project & you would like to donate your car for this purpose.
Mr. Gerle will inform you if you car meets the necessary specs for this mission.
He will need your car for about 2-3 of fabricating & engineering the exhaust system.
From there the final product goes for CARB SMOG LEGAL certification.

ANY compensation is between yourself & Mr. Gerle.

DON'T EXPECT THE MOON & STARS (Ya know it is a tough econmomy right now!) YET I can assure ya something wonderful & postive will come from your assistance!

Thank you for picking up the ball.
I only wish I could go.
It would be a very cool experience & LOTS of knowledge gained!

I live near Dallas and could have done it in about two weeks but if we already have someone in Pheonix, what are we waiting for?

Your tring to compare grapes to apples(if the PaceSetters get made) And sorry, but Pace is tha apple. Not tomention, it would be less then half the cost of your buddies headers. So we can see why you are not willing to help the masses. Trust me if I was even within 70 miles of phoenix I would be all over it, but I'm not, and I am not willing to drive the 1000 miles to get there.

Back to topic...
Hey Ked, can'y Paceseeter make a mock up of the block/trans combo and the K member? That woull all they would really need, cause above the front subframe there is plenty of room???
How do you know that Pacesetter will make a much better product? Have you held both in your hands? Have you x-rayed Greg's welds (which look pretty damned good to me) and Pacesetters, and compared? It's like arguing over whether Flowmaster or Dynomax makes a better muffler. Both different companies, both different "positives" and "negatives" for both sides.

Now the advantage of Pacesetter is that they have the power/funds to get a CARB number. If they do, I'll definately put my Heddman headers on the shelf and buy a set of the Pacesetters. If I didn't have the Hedman's by now, I would've bought 57TPI's.

I'm not yelling at you, but this comes back to the familar calling of most of the v6 crowd- including 4th gen owners- "I want something that doesn't exist and I want it for the price of a Happy Meal." Someone sticks their neck out to get something made for everyone- and everyone backs out because of the price, leaving us v6'ers looking like jerks - yet Again - to another aftermarket company. Think that aftermarket company will bother with the 2.8/3.1/3.4 crowd again?

You know what would suck?

total cost for hotel and round trip would beeee a whopig $ 561.95

good lord thats alot of money. and i would need a second driver (probably my brother) so cost of hotel would go up, so would food.

i think by telling you this you see why i can't go. however, if these expenses were paid (not all of, hey i wanto support cauise too!) then i could justify doing it.
It'd suck if someone goes to all this trouble and spends this money... then Pacesetter says "We'll make the headers but we need pre-paid 5 orders to start production", and only 1 person pays. Not only are the headers lost, but so is $561.95 and a week of someone's time/energy.

AND V8 HEADERS AREN'T FRIGGIN CHEAP EITHER!!!! Go look up the price of a carb certifed smog-legal V8 5.7 TPI set of headers for an 85-92 f-body!

Again, I'm not yelling at anyone or whatever. Call me being a bitch. I just hate to see "missed opportunities" when it comes down to the bottom line- the cost. There's only so far that free or low-cost mods can take ya. Look at me; there's no bolt-on's left for me to do. So what do I do? Drop over $1000 on rebuilding the suspension- and that's not including time missed from work OR the rental car ($206 for three days). What's next? Not sure, got a list for myself, but anything on that list is well over $500.

Just for reference I looked up a set of Edelbrock T.E.S. Headers for a 86-90 Camaro/Firebird 5.0L/5.7L TPI 3'' slip-on single cat. on Jegs and the price was $325.99 without shipping and handling.

Not saying anyone's are better, or anything like that, and I know they have one more tube on both sides then ours, but that's just a figure I threw out since it was mentioned.

It is 1100 miles, 18.5 hours, and $75 in gas each way plus, wear and tear on my car and about $500 to miss a week of work. Then when I'm out there I'll need food and someplace to stay. So I'm looking to be out of about $1500 for that week.

3.14now- You're the one for this job, you already live in Pheonix, and have the right car so you shouldn't have to miss work OR need someplace to stay. What's the big deal?

He probably just hasn't logged onto thirdgen.org again...

I like the idea of buying a beater 2.8 f-body for $300 and dropping it off. Chances are good that it just needs a major tuneup and you could sell it after the project's done for $600.

COMMON SENSE SAYS
It's a VERY Short work week next week.
be patient.
We WAITED SO LONG what is another day or three?
Ya gonna win a race because ya get the street legal headers 3 days earlier?
BFD.
COST
VERY SIMPLY..
The 3.4 version goes for $300+ right now thru PaceSetter.
Add $100 or so for "Y" pipe.
Cheap.
OR
Ya wanna go make your own & smog certify them outta your own pocket.
Meaning PaceSetter is COMMITTED to STREET LEGAL 3.4 headers for the 1993-95 3.4.
That specific 3.4 exhaust header application is in El Monte, CA for certification right now.
They are trying to get these 3rd Gen 2.8/3.1 for 1985-1992 into mix/certification "in time" for cost effectiveness.
AND GIVE PEOPLE A BREAK, as they have other business & and a life to attend too.
I'm thankful someone listened (Mr. Gerle).
I'm thankful someone could go for ALL of us.
How Kind & thoughtful.
Quit your bitchin...
Sorry.
This situation is looking very positive, so let's be more supportive.
WE MAY ACTUALLY WIN, FINALLY!

This thread is NOT gonna turn into a bitch jump on others topic.

This is a thread about the hope that we FINALLY GET STREET LEGAL HEADERS

Ya wanna talk about motor enhancements, Street Legal Headers from PaceSetter is this topic.

I'm sure we'll hear a response soon enough.

It's only 111* in Phoenix today.
I'd live in the pool today!
NOT in some hot exhaust facilty, creating a product especially for our cars & market, because I asked them.

Go WAVE at a CORVETTE TODAY!
The Car name is 50 years old, longest continuous vehicle name STILL in production.
(T-Bird stopped for a few years & was started in 1955, that name was always #2)
This one is mine

So what's the scoop? Headin' to Pacesetter, or what?

Like I said earlier, it's a short week.
I'm very sure we'll be hearing some positve results.

I didn't "discourage" the creation of turbo headers.
I AM DEFINETLY promoting the possibility of Smog Legal Headers for our rides!

BUT
Because I am curious,
WHY NOT USE THE STOCK MANIFOLD
Upside down-
That trick was used very often in the mid 70's when "turbocharging Corvettes" was a Smog Pollution Performance Enhancing Trick", that never seemed to work "right" for continuous street usage
or
Open up the EGR part for stock exhaust feed for turbo.
Are those options for making the turbo work?

Hey, IT'S AMERICAN TO WAVE AT A CORVETTE!
ANY Muscle car deserves a WAVE these days!
The days of seeing Muscle Cars very often and daily on streets is fading fast... Even in SoCal, the amount is rapidly fading...

PS-Sorry for the Self Promoting Plug but that is one of my best pics I've ever taken & That is my Corvette. I just enjoy seeing this pic. And today the 50th Anniversay is a good reason to show it.

YEP!
Amazing what TR3 can do to what's left of car paint.
TR3 is basically Armor All for cars!
Yes, I "know" it's bad for a cars paint.
This was my one time "shot", so I made it look good.
I can't believe I've owned this Corvette since Spring of 1995 already!
Time Flies When Ya Having Fun!
I almost purchased a 1966 for $25K looking nicer...
Back to headers!

WHY AREN'T YOU VOLUNTEERING TO GO TO PHOENIX!?
Give yourself a graduation present, Street Legal Headers from PaceSetter!!

folks, i think we may need to come to grips with the fact that 3.1fornow may have been trolling. how do you forget your username. you could just do a search and find an old topic... there is also a master list on the main page where you can go through alphabetically. anyway, i will ask my boss on monday, i will be in touch before then, i have monday off but i know he opens monday to 5pm, so on monday i will roll in around 1 pm and get back to you guys by two o`clock pm on monday (pacific time) i work tonight from noon-1am (13 hour shift!!!) but i will check board at 1am once i am home. hopefully 3.1for now will have seen this post, and posted "i'm still here" or somthing

lets get this going!

by the way, i am a bit new at this, i don't exactly know what headers do. i know they put less backpressure on the engine by being more eficiantl designed and bigger. witch in turn increases power. but do they increase fuel economy as well? i hope so, that would kick ***. my friends keep asking my why i need any MORE power (took them for a ride, my pal edan damn near wet himself, my sig says Raging 2.8l it does not lie!!)

We'll find out soon enough
This will progress forward.
Again next week is a short work week.
Basically, headers...
It's the garbage in & garbage out theory.
A bigger, smoother flowing drain pipe allows more garbage to exit at a higher volumn.
Gas milage decreases as right foot pressure increases.
Headers DO NOT cause gas milage increase. Driver does.
We'll find out soon enough about 3.1fornow.
I think we'll hear good results....
YET you'll have a great trip from North to South!
This header issue WILL progress forward.
Again next week is a short work week.

Not a problem... I know how you Corvette owners are! (just messin' with yeah... very nice pic, and yeah, the days of the Muscle Cars are fading. )

Can't use EGR for a turbo. Not enough flow. Can't use manifolds flipped, asymetrical bolt pattern. Custom headers, or custom Y pipe are the only two viable choices.

I THINK IT'S WONDERFUL
You get to visit your Granmother
When ya down this way, give a shout.
I'm the first exit as ya get into Los Angeles County.
Have ya tried to contact Mr. Fred Gerle?
I do not believe you'll be able to until after the 4th holiday.

I had a feeling no word back from Mr Gerle.
As I have said it's ashort work week & MANY probably have taken off since last Friday outta town.
IF I had to deal with 111* temps, I'd find a cooler place also.
It's only been in low 90's in LA valley lately.
Feels ok!
No discouragement!

WHY AREN'T YOU VOLUNTEERING TO GO TO PHOENIX!?
Give yourself a graduation present, Street Legal Headers from PaceSetter!!
I wish I could do that, but I got all my UCI stuff to be done. Orientations and then landing a summer job won't let me do that. Plus I gave my car a graduation present, see my New Paint Post and the lifters will quit ticking this Thursday!

What makes me very pleased is the SUPPORT received for this Street Legal Header Challenge from US to PaceSetter....
MANY wrote a short email
Several are attempting to volunteer their rides for the mission
ALL IS ENCOURAGING....
All because I was determined for our market share to have a STREET LEGAL Hi Performance Product.

We'll be hearing soon, after the Forth, I'm very sure.

If these headers are made they will fit any 2.8-3.4 in a 3rd gen If!

Gotta say- you know how many V8 guys would be all over this offer if no headers were available? Pacestter would have them lined up at their doorstep to volunteer. There just isn't a serious demand for V6 headers for a company to produce them and make profit. This post proves it- just a bunch of people saying they want want want but no one stepping up to the plate and actually doing- Sorry but I don't think it will ever happen- someone prove me wrong.

My latest response from Mr. Gerle at 8 AM THURSDAY JULY 3rd!

Karl:
I don't know if the party from Tucson tried to reach me, but I have yet to talk to him or her. Can you rattle that cage once again? We are prepared to do the header project immediately upon being contacted. Thanks.
Fred Gerle

I would have posted this sooner, but I was busy at first re-release of movie "Montery Pop" and gathering of performers, in Hollywood, meeting Michelle Phillips of the Mama's & Papa's ("California Dreamin'"), Roger Daltry of THE WHO!!!!!!!. I didn't get a chance to say hello to Jack Cassidy of the Jefferson Airplane.

Just prior to reading this/these responses, I sent out a reply to Mr. Gerle. I offered a compromise solution of which I hope to soon hear a response.

What I proposed is
Can you PaceSetter, send a flatbed to PU the Tucson Firebird for this mission?
I know your trip can happen late July-August.
I BELIEVE they are holding up "sending" the 3.4 headers for approval, so they can send this 2.8/3.1 example, same time.
We'll see!
WE ARE GETTING CLOSER
THAT'S GREAT!

Just now, I sent the 3rd Gen adminstrator an email requesting I be able to contact 3.1_4now.
I also "sent" 3.1_4now an email at the email address provided in his reply (adding the correct "i" for the hotmail contact place).

This is getting closer!!!
We're gonna make this street legal header opportunity occur!

possible bump in the road as far as my plans go.....

in order for me to do this trip i would need a second driver. my brother, who drives a nissan, and has no intrest in my car other then awe at the fact that his is faster (sad but true) opted to come with me. awfull nice of him.

he put in a request for time off and assumed it would be aproved, cause they always are, and gave me the go ahead. heres the snag. his boss is on vacation that same week. that means he might not be able to goaunless they can get somone else to pull major overtime, or get somone from another location to help out. this is only a slight bump in the road. both my brother and i are good workers with great attitude so our manages like us and are willing to work through difficult situations, this should be ironed out here pretty quick.

slight snag on my end as well. two other guys at my work (total staff of seven) also requested time off around the days i will be gone. all together there is one overlapping week where all three of us would be gone. this puts a big strain on the other four. i was te first to ask for time off, so i am safe.. but still.... feeling awfull guilty....

annyway, just thought i would keep you posted, future news to come (good i hope)
