Im trying to set timing caz I took distributor off
and now I aligned the damper notch and put the rotor facing no.1 spark plug spot.

I get a very slow crank, and no start.
pulled my plugs out the fuel is going through.. and using my timing light
I do see that the spark is going through.

i was like what in the hell did i do?

but then I took a close look.. and wtf?
I see 3 notch in the crank damper.. IS THIS NORMAL????

Im hoping that I just need to align it with the right notch and I'll be fine..
but any idea of having 3 notches on it? let me know if anybody do..

a little note..

before I started this job(intake manifold gaskets and lifters),
the car was running perfectly fine with no known problems,
so I know it has to be the timing..

or let me know of a known cause of slow crank
and no start besides the ignition timing being way too off..

my battery is good btw

Rotate the motor either by hand or have someone bump the starter while you put your finger over the #1 spark plug hole (need two people either way). disconect the ignition. When you feel the compression stop and put a socket on the crank bolt and continue rotating untill the mark on the balancer is centered with the 0 mark on the timing tab. you are now on tdc #1 compression stroke. put the distributor in and leave enough room to move around the base of distributor to adjust the timing. get your timing light out and adjust it when you fire her up. you need to find tdc and verify which notch is the right one. I am assuming the one closest to the timing tab 0 mark when you rotate the rest of the way is the right one.

Another way to find out for sure which mark on the balancer is correct is to put somthing in #1 piston hole and rotate the motor by hand. rotate untill the object (like a coat hanger) is at the top of its travel. then look on he balancer there should be a mark within a couple of degrees right their. this also is a two man job

One of them 3 notches is bigger then the others. Thats the one you have to align it with.

man what a nightmare job I did now..

I aligned with all 3 marking,
and tried with the biggest notch(since it looks cleanest too),
still my car sounds so ugly and dies..

I tore up the engine to change lifters and top end gaskets,
and I thought I dropped something metal into the chamber caz
my car had this clunk or thump noise every 2sec.

after so much stress and time I found a frigging burned plug wire.. LOL
hopefully a new wire will fix my problem.
I learned alot bout cars in school but never did these jobs before
so i was nervous to death!
