knock sensor stuck!

Hey guys! My knock sensor has been acting up (throwing code 43) so I figured it'd be a good idea to change a 20+ year old part. Well I have it and I couldn't get mine out of there tonight. It is just about rusted on there. Any tips or advice? Don't want to strip it and can't get an easy off on it

Re: knock sensor stuck!

I hate to say it, but, if necessary, use a monkey wrench (might need to remove the starter first to get clearance). I don't remember what I got mine out with, finally, but it took literally hours...

Re: knock sensor stuck!

Thanks Mav! I greatly appreciate the fast response. I figured I would have to start removing bits and pieces till I had enough room. I know for sure that there was a terrible contact because the rubber piece was a hard, hard plastic at this point. I broke off the majority and made it a snug connection and had no problems on the drive home. But want to replace the part, just in case.

Again thank you!

Yep, I hear you... I know pretty well what our NY winters do to these things (still patching holes). My engine was dropped in in 2004, and I decided to try to swap to the later engine controls in 2009. Needless to say, the KS was corroded in place and the terminal was messed up, so I needed a new one. Ended up getting rid of the harness due to ignition problems, but still need the working sensor.

Re: knock sensor stuck!

Yeah I hear ya on the winters. I work as a mechanic and I absolutely hate it! The winters destroy the cars and when people complain about the bill being expensive, they don't understand that things being rusted = longer time to do the work. Hahaha!

But yeah I ressurected this car from the dead and have taken preventative care so it won't rust in the winter time. But that doesn't help with the existing problems of things being stuck! Oh well it happens.

How long did it take for you to drop the engine? Thinking about doing it to mine to fix the exhaust problems and clean it up. Only have a weekend to do it though.

Re: knock sensor stuck!

Well, I basically had the engine ready to pull in about 3 hours (that's with being able to completely pull the front end harness in less than half an hour)... But it was months before it came out because I didn't have a hoist or stand to put it on. Ended up pulling it... with snow on the ground . The hoist was bad enough on my driveway (very uneven and almost gravel) without there being snow on it. Mine's coming back from a near-death experience, probably this summer. I can only hope.

Back in 2004, however, I didn't do it. My father paid our mechanic to do it. Still don't know why it took him a MONTH to get it done (I seriously doubt he waited that long to get an engine), but it did. That's why my 2.8 turned into a 3.1 .
