Originally posted by ladyfirebird I paid $800 for my 91 Firebird 3.1. No stero, needed a new alternator, needed some front end cosmetics, 120,000 miles.
Now that I'm almost done with the body work, she's a beautiful car..
Couldnt' put a price on her
LOL, everything has a price, and since this thread ive noticed it isnt much... but who can pay for happiness...
$700...plus about $125 to get through inspection. 89,000 miles, hardly any rust, and runs like a dream since I yanked the cat. Quite a deal in my area since just about everything its age is a rust bucket in Maryland.
I paid $700 for mine from my mom's friend because it had a bad oil leak. Stupid small-town shop...put the oil filter on as TIGHT as it would go (I never did tell the lady that that was the only problem) Radio and tape deck worked, new front calipers, new brakes, BRAND NEW headliner installed three months prior, 116,000 miles.
Lets see...$8000 for a 1986 Camaro 2.8 in 1988, around $5000 for a '91 Firebird in 1996, 3.1, power everything and t-tops, and my current '90 Firebird 3.1 $4500 in 1999...t-tops, no power anything, about 130,000 miles right now. No mods at all except a Kenwood cd player and a K&N filter. All of the usual suspects have been replaced at least once, water pump twice.
Paid $2600 for a 1991 RS V6 with $153,000 miles. Body was straight, no rust(except a minor amount around the windshield), Interior like new; rebuilt engine and diff; no curb rash on the rims- very nice ride! Clay bar to the paint and it looks like new!
Unfortunately, the trans dropped out of it after 30 days, but 'Oh well'... all in all, I am as happy as a clam with this car.
Had a guy in a $94,000 Masarati compliment me on my ride, as well as another guy in an $80,000 Jaguar- could have bought around 30 of my cars for what they paid for each of their's! Laughed MAO! Smoked'em at the lights. too...!
I payed $1,200. The Owner originally wanted $1.500. Saw it on Auto Trader Online. At the time I thought I had gotten a great deal. The car ran good when I went to checked it out. The Muffler was loose and made noise while stopped. Interior was a mess and had a loose headliner. The Outside was dirty but the paint job was decent and threre were no dents or sracthes. Except for the hood. Paint was peeling. So after the test drive I say "I'll give you 12 hundred". Owner says OK. Then come the problems. The car had expired tags and no tittle but I drove it about 30 miles home. No pigs in sight. The following day I take it to work so I can stop at the DMV to take care of the paperwork. Less than a mile away from work a patrol car pulls up behind me from out of nowhere. I try to explain but he doesn't care. he tickects me. Get to DMV and find out I have to Drive back to Wittier Heights so the owner can sign some papers. With the ticket and all. To register the car it cost me about $900. A week after owning the car I decide to install a 1,000 Watt amp(used) Complete with 2 12's(used), New Alpine Deck, New Sony Xplod 6x9's. Setting me back about $600. The sytems lasted about a month before the alternator blows up while on my way to work. Alternator from autozone sets me back another $50. Three days after alternator. About a week after that it starts raining here in Los Angeles. While taking a Left, I almost loose control and remember the car needs new tires. The following day, I purchase new Radials from Discount tire center complete with three year alignment for a total of $600. And finally on my way to install a $700 alarm systems my transmission messes up. My 1990 Firebird has been sitting on new $600 tires for almost two months now while I try to find the time to take out the trans. and take it to get it rebuild
So basically V6 lasted for about 6 months and cost me about $5,000
$2800 for my 91 Camaro RS 3.1 , catback exhaust , everything else stock , no body damage , 89,000 miles , bought from 2nd owner , all maintance and replacements were documented and paperwork kept , all origional paperwork and books came with the car new . Hatch pull down motor doesnt work lol. Other than that almost in mint condition exept the LITTLE tear in the headliner and the passenger side visor hangs. almost forgot car had all clean tags and was current on its emissions and registrations. no accidents or bad little bugs hiding anywhere. did have a few problems with some sensors going out and wires being alittle old but havent caused me TO much pain.
Paid $510 through Ebay. I got lucky..
1 owner, minor body damage, no problems other than an altenator i had to replace. And I am talking about a 3.1 V6. Since I got it so cheap I felt spoiled, so I bought an 89 Formula for $800 which is a POS!
So u dont always get what you pay for.

So u dont always get what you pay for.
perfect body.. non saggy springs (aka 4x4 stance), only thing not stock in it is a aftermarket stereo
only thing wrong with it is a bad fuel pump.
guy wanted alot more for it (and it was worth more too), but hes in the navy and had to move asap.
the ad for it sat on the local message board right up until the 2days before he had to move.. i offered all i had (i just moved into a new apartment) so it was only $200.. he said no.... the next day, i got a call back and we worked out $300..
since it didnt run, 90% of the people who wanted it, couldnt come get it.... luckily, i have friends with trailers.
im just fixing it up (normal tuneup, wear items, ect...)... this fall, im going to give it to my little sister for when she goes back to school..
Lets put this int perspective......$2400 more in parts alone just this month.
Unlike most that build "hot rods" and spend thousands on a car that is a garage queen and is driven maybe 10 days a year, I spend money on my primary cars and drive the crap out of them. I enjoy my money spent, I enjoy it daily.
Yes I do have two garage queen also though, but liketto have unusual daily drivers that are unklike anything else on the road yet very very reliable and funtional.
front bumper cover has damage under the bra.
The gluides on the lift gate needed replacing
no console cover (or rpo codes)
the 2.8 motor needs rebuilding
tranny in it needs rebuilding and I have the original (2 transmisions)
I am putting a new cam & new headers on it and various 3.1 parts I'm pulling off one in the junk yard.
When all is siad and done I will have between 1,000 & 2,000 dollors in it, that's including the original cost of the car and I should have a car that has at least 75-100 thousand miles left on it, if I don't screw something up in the rebuild...lol.
I've havn't screwed one up before but you never know.
I will say this f-body & 2.8 is alot better to work on than my old grand am with the quad4 (piece of ____).
I paid 3k for mine back in september...51k miles, clean, no rust, minor dent on the hood, AR rims(a little rusty, but that just adds character) and new tires(indy 500s up front and kelly chargers in back), new brake booster and master cylinder, clean engine compartment and ran nice and smooth...ive had a few issues since but nothing overly major and done a few little things to help it out...if i could have found a v-8 available at the time in that price range and that condition i wouldve got it...but i wanted a third gen cuz i had one before but had to get rid of it and regretted it ever since. Once uve owned one of these cars its hard to go without one and feel satisfied with ur ride

I paid $400 bucks for my recently aquired '89 RS. It needed a new battery and radiator (donated by my '84 Z28). It has absolutely no options. I love the hardtop after years of leaky t-tops. And the 5 speed is awesome! (the first of my 6 3rdgens that doesn't have an auto tranny!) I miss the V8 power, but that will be coming soon enough...
i paid 900 bucks for my 87' year and a half ago with new pepsi blue paint and component speaker system with deck, i later added a kicker comp sub in the back and 6X9's in the rear, when i got it i replaced MAF sensor, hatch shocks, hood shocks, put in k&n air filters, fabricated the headliner, got ahold of some rs wheels and had them powdercoated blue ,replaced cat back exhaust , got with 82k miles now has 106k only problems i ever had with it was within the last 1,000 miles! serpentine belt took a trip replaced, alternator went replaced (replaced battery same time), now i have this horrible miss that i STILL havent figured out (going on the 3rd week car off road) eh what are you gonna do still love the car

Might as well use this as my "Hi I'm new thread" as well...
I bought my 87 firebird for 300 bucks from a kid in Utah, it didn't have a rear bumper (metal or cover) but i picked one up for around 100 bucks there as well. To say the least, I've spent a LOT of time under the hood...and around 400 making it run...the previous dipshi....er..owner, apperantly thought he was a hotshot mechanic..and well, he didn't really do much other then screw a lot of tuff up that i had to fix. Right now though, seems my MAF sensor is throwing out code 33, time to fix that...
i paid 400 for my '85 firebird 800 for the tranny+ diff, 300 for filler,
rivets, including my paint job 2 tone
350 for a '86 parts car. no problems with the engine havent touched anything except for exhaust manifolds and y-pipe. here's a pic of my first paint job when i was 16 not i got it painted pearl white
I paid $2600 for my 91.
Some body work and minor rust but not bad. Since i bought it i changed the weatherstripping, cat, y-pipe, and headliner. Came with original set of rims and tires and Corvette rally wheels and rims.
Heh, I forgot to add, my car came with the extremely PIMP, cannot be topped, BUICK RIVIERA WHEELS. With tires that were too large for the car, maybe there's something the water up in Utah?
got y'all beat......I got my 83 2.8 5speed from my aunt when I turned 18......it got a starting issue....my moms idiot boyfriend caught it on fire melted the engine harness bye bye 83..... he felt bad so he bought me an 84 firebird 2.8 auto. sunroof. and thus far I have put 4 years and ABOUT 4000 into it. the body it all rebuilt (just need a spoiler) the interior is about half there (needs seats and carpet) and the motor needs the carb I just got and the suspension needs bushings and rear shocks.....basicly all else has beed dune
I bought my 1985 Camaro SC in 1992 when I turned 17 and paid $1700 for it.
It is Copper colored with copper interior. Body was perfect and interior was a 9 out of 10. had 66,000 miles on it. Manual windows, hardtop, stock radio, etc. Has A/C.
It now has 249,000 miles on it. Since I bought I have changed the air filter.

$1,000 and came with a dented fender and a "lovely" Maaco pant job lol
3 year later it still has Maacos quality work ......but has needed a cat back ("excuse me sir...your muffler is dragging" seems like a good enough reason eh? lol) ....but she still keeps going!
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/Redsand5101/DSCF0504.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com"><br> My first third gen firebird I bought a few years back. It has a meager silver paint job from maaco. Aswell as an aftermarket convertable top. Which was not of the highest quality but sure was a rare car.<br><br><br><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/Redsand5101/whitecar.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com"><br> This is my 2nd 3rd gen. Same year and everything except it has 39k miles for only $4750! In amazing condition. It belonged to an old old lady who just drove it to the supermarket and such, she recently died and they family needed to sell it. However, all I'm planing to do is some 17in Ronal rims and I already have my sound system installed, I am very happy with it.
$0 got it in 2004. Engine was shot and i didnt want to pay any money to rebuild (and i had no idea what happened to it or how it was driven either-just know it was dead) it and we had the 262 block so thats what ive done....i guess i dont count on parts then but ive only paid around $160 in parts-mainly exhaust, and then probably around another $125 or so for tags and title in the very near future
body has a few rust spots but those are minor, paint is in good condition just needed washed about 1500 times before a coat of wax went onto it, and a huge dent in the drivers side quarter panel
had no sound system at all and someone thought they were awesome at interior work and put purple synthetic velvet everywhere....looks like hell but im not gonna do anything with it
$1150
88, 2.8 swapped for 3.1, 72k on new motor, rebuilt trnny (about 8k) new brakes, headliner, spark plugs, coil, many parts for those dang headlights flowmasters about 8 years old-nicest sounding v6 Ive heard)
Front seal is bad on the compressor, Im not sure if I should put the time into replacing it or just buy a whole new compressor.
Interior nearly perfect.
A few small dents from Hurricane Charley, within 1 week I had 3 offers for 3k+, what a steal

I paid $250 for my 87 2.8 Camaroand the guy thought it was an 86. First off the car somked and wouldn't start unless it was cool outside. So I replaced the computer and fixed the starting problem. Then I found out that the rocker arm was not on the push rod intake valve on the #4 cylinder. So I did a good job at taking it off of his hands because he had no clue that it was just minor issues. That was 3 months ago. Well as of today I have installed a new cam and will be looking to change out the exahust while adding a chip into the mix sometime or another. No body rust at all so I will keep it for a long time. Every v8 I looked at was all rusted out and couldn't match up to my 6. Now I love the car and with the little additions, I will not be looking for an 8 anymore.
1987 chevy camaro,86,000miles. needs new paint, couple of small dents, alittle rust, 2 sets of rims, after market muffler, $600 bucks off some stupid college kid.. wanted 1200 and went up to him with 600 cash and he signed the title!
$2500 for my parents but zip for my its a 91 with a little over 100Kdecent int. and ok paint just need to redo the clear and its fine runs great when it wants to but having a couple problems now with it
I haven't seen this thread before I purchased my 89 RS last summer for $1200. She has 125k on her, has new paint they way I bought her, 2.8 5 speed, all power including hatch and release, C&C t-tops, hatch louvers, I installed the deluxe overhead console, I redid all the interior although it was clean, 84 TA seats (nice) not a speck of rust, car is clean and unmolested I even have the correct hub caps for the rims IMHO she is mint, I haven't driven her in about 3 months and the battery died I am waiting for a steering column in the mail and I can go cruising this summer
