I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the blanks for each wheel are $600 a piece. To make something from billet, you have to have a blank that meets the maximum dimensions. A 17" diameter by 11" thick piece of aluminum is a hefty piece of stock, and chances are its an alloy like A356 or 7075-T6 that isn't exactly cheap.

Actually, I love the look of my 87 factory IROC wheels. Ive thought about the aftermarket upsizes but theyre all 8". Im not sure if thats wide enough. Ive read that 17 x 9.5 is best for the 3rd gen. Maybe someday Ill be able to afford to have some made.

Buy the 8" versions & ship it them to be widened. ROH Snypers only came in 8", but now 2 of mine are 11" Worth the $300 per wheel to do.

If you have the older style ground effects on your car (85-90), then the 17-18 inch IROC wheel would look better on your car, IMO. If you have the 91-92 style ground effects, then I like the look of my wheel better. If I had an IROC, I probably would have just widened the aftermarket larger IROC wheel like Stephen has suggested to you.

There is a black IROC vert here on the boards, that has the 18 inch IROC wheels and he had them widened to 10's or 11's in the back. Just do a search and you should be able to find the thread with pics pretty easily.

My car is a stock body 87 IROC Z28 lowered 2". The lowering actually makes the 16" IROC wheels look very nice. The reason I consider the 17s is strictly for cornering ability. I have read articles showing the difference in lateral acceleration rates with different wheel/tire combinations. 17x9.5 with 275 40 17 tires seems to be the best package(1.1g LA).

My son has a 2002 Ram Air TA. He swapped to 18s and said I could have his stock 17x9 WS6s. Ive thought about it but just dont think I like that look and my cornering is pretty good with the stock wheels. If anything, I would purchase the 17" IROCs and have them widened. Ive thought about that for years. Just too busy spending money on everything else. Now since my woman, whom I love more than life itself, ran my baby into a fence post, cracking the front bumper cover. I will again be spending more than enough to do the wheels, on body work.

The only thing I'm not sure about is that the center cap is shiny and chromy, I think I'd like it better in black

Just hafta figure out if the cost of 2 of the already existing aftermarket wheels + $600 for the widening are worth the price difference between just buying 2 of these 1bad91Z wheels cost. I dunno how much they are, but if it is a close enough price? You may just opt to buy the Boyds.

Check with the wheel place first about widening a wheel first, just to be on the save side.

Here is the place I used, they are located in Dallas - Houston - San Antonio - Chicago - Miami - Los Angeles - Philadelphia - San Francisco & New York, but I know they are not the only ones around that do it. I used Dallas since they were closest to me.

I plan to rob the black plastic buttons with camaro logo in center, off of a new set of factory center caps and then epoxy those onto the center of the new hex caps. The new hex cap is recessed in the center to do just that if you choose to!

Did you talk to Boyd? If so, tell him to make them identical to my set and scottyrock's set and they will work fine.

Also, if you check out page 1 of this thread, the info is in the very first post.

"The rear wheels are 17x10 (11 inches overall from outer lip to outer lip) backspacing is 6.25 inches, with Nitto 555R Drag Radials (315/35/17).
The front wheels are 17x8 (9 inches overall from outer lip to outer lip) backspacing is 4.5 inches, with Nitto 555 street (245/45/17)."

Very good design and I am down for getting some. If you have the opportunity to add/change the design, I would say make a machine finish/painted versions that looks just like the factory wheel. I would agree with the other member that it is just a bit to much bling bling. Awsome design though!! How long do you anticipate these to be ready for sale?

Machining the face would cost extra if they would do it.

You would have to call Boyd Wheels for that. Right now, there are only two sets of these in existence, mine and Scottyrock has set number two. Both sets are 17's and will fit your car without the the use of spacers.

For any paint work to them or if you change the size, I'm sure the price will probably increase....

But again, Boyd could answer that one for you. If you call them, just tell them that you are interested in the "1bad91Z" wheel, that's what the wheel was named.

I love my wheels so much, every where i go people that know 3rd gens are like WTF thouse are bad a$$. They tuck nice and only stick out a little at the bottom of the GFX, like a inch or so. The wheels are so easy to clean, my car is a daily driver and are as good looking as the day I got them. A little pricey but SO worth it

If anyone has a Pro Charger set up for TPI Camaro's I would be willing to let the wheels go for a Pro Charger kit and some cash, or if someone wanted to ship a brand new kit to my house I would mail them my wheels, or $4,500.00 CASH or PayPal shipping included for the wheels and tires, they have only few miles on them and still have the nipples on the tires. I took a ride in a Pro Charged 305 TPI Camaro and it was sweet, now i want one.

17 x 8 front offset = $749.00 each
17 x 10 back offset = $769.00 each

18 x 8 front offset = $789.00 each
18 x 9 back offset = $799.00 each
18 x 10 back offset = $809.00 each

And there would be a 5% discount on two sets!!

These wheels are not regular production wheels. They come from their custom shop and it takes awhile to get anything custom made from any place. Now that there are two sets running around, maybe it wont take as long to get more out the door faster..?

I dont cut wheels, but I have seen it done, by Boyds crew on the show they had (have?), and on several others. It doesnt take a 17" X 11" peice. Its usually 17" by 2" or 3", then its cut and fitted, by heating the rim, and freezing the insert. Then its welded or riveted, or both after that. And its not cheap, but its not the aluminum you pay for. Its the time it takes to program the machine and set it up.

Billet usually does mean cut from a solid chunk the way I understand it, but the waste would make that very ineffecient. Ive been trying to get some custom rims made for a non-automotive application Im working on, and Ive been really digging into this stuff. Im still looking for someone who sells the billet blanks, but cant find what Im needing.

On a thirdgen? Not likely. Its what most cars on here are worth.

Still the price is not the issue to be honest. If you think 3200 for wheels is alot then you must have a really tight budget. Alot of 4th geners and other car peoples are spending that if not more for their rides. CCW, Fikse, Weld, etc are what people go with and their price is similar.

I already stated my opinion here and as said, I would never consider buying these. I am eye balling CCW atm. Good luck with selling the wheels Scotty.

Cracks me up guys will spend 6-8k on a motor but no $ on wheels/brakes cause "its what the car cost" or whatever. Who cares?! If it floats your boat buy them you only live once.

There will always be the crowd who will pay for top quality the rest can buy those cheezy chinese 80 buck a piece wheels. They look every part of cheap, too! lol
