I guess I should not have said it was exactly the same, But if you guys are worried about 3/100ths of an inch difference, you should probably throw every wheel you own in the trash because I can pretty much guarantee that unless you own an $8000 set of custom wheels the ones you drive on every day are not manufactured within that tight of a tolerance.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
I doubt that
That's with correct bolt pattern
your spending money on wheel adapters why not get the correct bolt pattern also or correct the bolt pattern
its a 50/50 chance most people wont have issues others will have issue ..i don't want to take that risk... that's just my opinion ..why not do it right ..but it will weaking your studs
keep in mind you lug nuts aren't properly seated
fyi most high end wheels come from china
Not trying to start anything but just stating facts so other members know the, and not have bad information

Any part can fail at any time. I don't seem to have any problems with mine And I have the "wrong" bolt pattern. By the way I'm at around 400hp at the crank.

I HIGHLY doubt any wheel out there is a whole 0.03" off. I would expect anything out there to be within 0.005". 0.01" is general machining tolerance. I have never seen a cnc machined part to be off more than 0.01"

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
I dropped serious coin on a set of proper adapters after a few thousand miles on cheapo eBay ones. Never had an issue before but now my adapters are hub centric to the car and lug centric to the wheels. Can't get them any safer than that. Costs about $180 a pair though. Honestly I only did it because I need an exact size adapter to keep my wheels tucked yet clear my brembos or I wouldn't have bothered. As someone who has had this wheel swap since almost day one I have to say a regular set of adapters 2" wide torque correctly have no issues, just check them regularly to be safe.
And my car now has an est. 425+ rwhp and multiple hard launches off a 3200 stall a d plenty of donuts and burn outs....not even one lug snapped....just saying people.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Just put on 2012 18" 5th gen wheels with 245/40/18 tires on my 87 LT, I used 1.5"/38mm adapters all the way around, and have very minor rubbing on sharp turns in my passenger side wheel well, I think I damaged that wheel well with a big rock when I was driving down some logging roads a year ago but it seems to be correcting itself slowly everyday I drive it....I might need to get 1.75" spacers for it to be perfect.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
oh and i have 4th gen rear end and custom adapters in the front.
The custom adapters go from stock 3rd gen lug pattern to stock 5th gen lug pattern with 14mm studs instead of the 12mm stock 3rd gen stuff. They are a custom 1.37" to make the front wheels sit perfectly inside the wheel wells too.
Cost about $200 for the pair and was WELL WORTH THE EXTRA SAFETY as I had lost all my studs on the NJ parkway in rush hour traffic and the wheel shot down the hwy while I was doing 80 mph in the fast lane....when I had ebay adapters on the car. Apparently the stock studs plud ebay adapters plus heavy 5th gen wheels PLUS someone over tightening the adapters and not properly torquing them down caused them to all to sheer off.
NO MATTER WHAT WHEEL SETUP..USE A TORQUE WRENCH!!!
(coming from a USAF JET ENGINE MECHANIC...ITS IMPORTANT and takes but an extra minute)

Heres my car after I painted it, put brembos on it, full tubular suspension including kmember and aarms.
No bumpers ground effects or engine/transmission at this point but it looked AMAZING once everything was on it and it was dropped down just cant find any pictures of the car at that point

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
looking good jerseyboy
drags look Alot meaner and like it way more than the 20s lol
i have to agree well worth spending extra
ebay wheel adapters use lower quality aluminum , there no warranty and they come from china where regulations are lets just say not as tight.
comaparing adapter that i got from a reputable company vs ebay difference is apparent
but this is a touchy subject for some people
IMO its worth getting quality Adapters and gotten multiple ones from this company with no issues and fits like a glove

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Has anyone had problems with the wheels studs? 3rd Gens are 12X1.5 and 5th Gens are 14X1.5. I just bought a set of 19" 5th Gen Wheels and didn't realize the stud size difference. Will/could this be an issue? I have adapters but they have 12X1.5 studs

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Well I got my tires painted and got rubber on them. I have a 4th gen rear and these wheels will not fit over my axle I need like a 1/8 in clearance on the inside of the wheel. I' m looking at 2 options. First I could grind my wheel to make space for the center piece of the axle. Second I could get a 1/2 in spacer and get longer studs which would help the stance. I'm trying to get this done with as little money as possible. I'm already down about $1100 with the wheels and tires. On the front I'll be using a 1 in adapter since I have 4th gen brakes.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
After much work here is my final look(please ignore the dirt). I had to grind the rear wheels to make clearance for flange on the rear axle. There is no spacer on the rear and a 1in adapter on the front with my 4th gen brakes.

@ nefarious
those rims look awesome like that. i went with the 2010 5th gen wheels like the one from the original thread starter but i really like what you did with your wheels.
are they staggered?
what size are they?

They are 18's all around. I think that they stick out a little more because of the 4th gen rear.

nasty nasty nasty I don't know about anyone else but I think those are hot. I got a set in my barn right now and you just gave one heck of an idea. I hope you don't mind me copying you. I was having thoughts of selling my car or heck idk doing something but now you have re-awakened my interest. I think I will drop in a heater core and take it somewhere to get the carb tuned correctly. thx man!
