which distributor?

hey i did a search.. all i got close was for a non comp. motor... i need 2 questions answered.. #1. do i have a HEI or points dist?.. someone said because i have an external coil.. its a points #2 what is a good distributor for my bad 305... i was lookin at petronix... but i dont think i have a vacume advance on my stock distributor. i would like to get a new distributor in with a 50,000 volt coil... should have no trouble gettin spark where it needs to be....

Well #1 are you all stock in the ignition system? If so you have a external coil HEI. Why do you think you need a new one? If you are all stock yours is controlled by the computer and that is why you have no vac. advance the computer will take care of that for you. If you need a new one you can get a replacement from Summit or Jegs. If you are just wanting to hop it up a little I would get a new external coil......module and maybe a MSD 6 with the plugs to make install a snap.

nah i just wanted to know what kind of distributor to run... i tried to tell the kid that said i had a points style that he was wrong... ok... im gunna get a new modual and 50,000 volt coil thanks plugs are gunna go in tommorrow

Yes thats all you really need. The throttle response will be much better.

Just rebuild your old distributor with a new pick-up coil , ignition module, cap rotor and get a MSD External coil. It'll work great.
