vortec heads.

Im planning on buying vortc heads from Jim pace. My question is 10.2:1 compression too much for them. Also what would be a good cam with 1.6 rockers for road racing.

You're 'on the edge' with compression, but running high test you shouldn't have any problems.

I run 10:1 approx and haven't had any problems w/ mine.

Just to make sure you're not buying the redrilled Vortecs from Jim Pace are you? If so don't, bad idea. I'll go into it if you were planning on getting those...

Ray, I'm not in the market of any more vortec heads, but would like to know more about the re-drilled heads you are talking about. Thanks

Run 10.5-1 with mine. No problems.
The stock intake manifold ports will not line up with any redrilled vortec heads. The ports are taller, and kinda resemble the ports on the LT1 engines. There may be certain aftermarket manifolds that have enough metal to cover the port, but why run vortec heads if the port is going to be restricted by not lining up?

He covered the main part. You're not gaining anything w/ the heads if your intake ports don't line up, and there isn't alot of material to be matching w/ there on most intakes. Some intakes apparently won't even cover the freaking ports (pics someone posted were of this). Once you have redrilled the holes the threads you end up with are not very deep either. You could easily have some problems striping them out as well. The guy I knew w/ the redrilled heads had this problem.

There is already a TBI and several carb intakes for the vortecs, and the TPI intake will be out soon so everyone should stay away from the redrilled heads...

Yeah right! I don't believe that SDPC is gonna release the TPI vortec manifold anytime soon...remember they said October 2K and it's now into May. I'm callin' bull**** on their manifold being out soon. I wish edelbrock (who makes it) will just sell the damn thing outright and forget about the middle man. I think we should rally together and bug them (edelbrock) until they do.
