Distributor

Need some feedback, I think I am going to get a new one. Mine has some rust inside and it's already out due to a new cam and many other upgrades. I like MSD if anyone uses there's let me know how you like it.

I am running an MSD pro billet ready to run distributor and it is absolutely awesome!!! I will admit I was extremely hesitant to spend $240 on a distributor, but it is a really nice unit. Plus, the lighter springs really woke my motor up after I began driving it (brings the advance in at 3k rpm instead of 5800)

MSD Pro Billet Distributors come with spring kits to recurve the distributor however you want, with graphs in the manual that show how much advance and at what RPM each spring will give you. Now if you said a Proform was a generic curved distributor, I wouldn't have minded. But MSD is the shiznital bam.

Can you guarantee me 100% that the MSD is phased and the curve is doing what it supposed to do per chart? Unless you have a distrubitor machine and dyno access it's all guessing, I know I've gone through it. I'm not bashing MSD. All I'm saying the DUI would be a better reference to start with, it's been fully assembled and and tested after recurved. Beleave me there's nothing like putting in a phasing problem after working (cc'ing, porting, flow benching, leakdowns, static/dynamic compression) for hours to make sure the motor runs even between cylinders to have a off the shelf ignition pull your hair out because of a 3 degree retard on one cylinder!!!!

When I recurved my distributor the seat of the pants difference was enormous, that is how i could tell. I can see what you are saying, but there is a reason you pay $240 for an MSD pro billet distributor. You are paying mostly for the name, but a lot for quality too. The lower end distributors (pro form etc) might be plagued by problems with factory errors and defects but I would bet money 9 out of 10 msd distributors are perfect. I can see what you are saying though and it is a valid point.
