Need help making my weekend car fast
I have an 86 iroc with the 305 tpi and auto trans. The only mods as of now is an american thunder cat back system. I have a car for commuting and i wanted to start working on my iroc. Pls give me any advice on if i should keep the 305 or swap to a 383. I have some mechanical skill, im currently in college studying auto mechanics. I was thinking of building a 383 stroker but this would be my first engine build and im not sure how hard it is. Pls give me any advice or suggestions.

I hate to be the one to tell you that you are posting this in the wrong place. There is so much info on TGO all you have to do is click that grey button that reads SEARCH and type in your info and you will find it. Good luck and have fun with your adventures.
If you want to build, why not go 335ci? 305 w/ the 3.750 stroke crank(same as 383, just smaller bore). punch it .020 to freshen it and you have a "square" motor 3.750 bore, 3.750 stroke. Couple people on here running it. great motor. - oh wait, I'd probably look for a late-model block w/ factory Hyd roller cam. You 86 will be flat-tappet and the roller can put some nice ponies in. otherwise, as stated, do a search. You'll find all the generals, headers, cam, heads, intake pieces, etc... Before you do much, look into sub-frames and rear suspension pieces. You'd be suprised how much better the car will feel w/ good traction, and how much you'll save by stopping the car from twisting into a pretzel...
