Tuning a AFPR
Tuning a AFPR
I just ordered an Ajustable fuel pressure regulator and am plannin on putting it on my car this weekend. I have a hi-rev cam, headers, dual cats, flowmaster, and have enlarged valves with a stock computer... how do I go about ajusting it perfectly?

Which one did you order? hopefully the one that adjusts with the 8mm.
Anyway, a little advice. Go to parts america or advanced auto and replace the spring and orange gasket type thing. They usually go when you bump up fuel pressure. Mine did, and believe me I wasnt too happy about taking my plenum off. You can tell when they go because the FP will remain the same with hose on or off. Anyway it is listed under MPFI there. Called the Fuel pressure regulator kit. Its only $29 compared to GMs price of $95.
Now as for optimal fuel pressure setting, you really have to play around. I recommend an electrical/digital FP gauge inside the car. That way you can constantly monitor the fuel pressure.
I have tried FP settings from stock (42psi), all the way to 59psi. I have found the best setting for my setup to be anywhere from 35-39 (vacuum hose on). You'll know you're too rich when black comes out of your pipes.
Oh yea, when you set the fuel pressure, do it with the car idling. EX(If your at idle, and the FP is reading 35. Disconnect the vacuum hose and it should rise to around 42. Vacuum hose disconnected usually makes the FP rise about 7#s.)Next, disconnect the hose. With the vacuum hose disconnected it simulates wide open throttle. When you have it to your desired setting put the hose back on. Now make a full throttle run and see if it reaches your setting.
To adjust the FP on mine, I usually have to take the plenum extension off, and I disconnect a spark plug wire. Thats the only way I can fit the wrench in there. Just make sure you put the wire back on!
Thats about it, I tried to answer all questions you may have in the future too! phew
Good luck.

Do yourself a favor and get a custom chip bro. Especially with an aftermarket cam in a speed density. Try www.fastchips.com

if you get the one from crane cams make sure you get a shorter adjustment screw than the one they give you, it hits the plenum!
i got about 1/4" shorter works nicely.

I use the Crane and I have no clearance problems really. I just take off the plenum extension and one spark plug wire and an 8mm wrench fits in there nicely.
I guess it would be easier with a smaller bolt though.
