Well I currently have just the ES poly mounts and came across the new UMI poly mounts. I purchased part number 90073. Here is the link to Hawks ebay listing:
Just a little background. When UMI came out with their solid mounts around 2014-16 they were unaware that these cars have side specific mounts. I emailed them and they were non responsive and adamant that they were not side specific. Hence I never purchased them.
Here is an old thread they commented in basically saying there is no side specific clamshells.
Fast forward to now. Low and behold I open the package and the engine side mounts aka clamshells are side specific like factory and of differing mount hole heights like factory. Wow. Guess they finally looked into the correct geometry. Glad they corrected the issue.
Like the previous posted thread passenger and driver sides are differing heights. Bravo UMI. Should have did this along time ago. On a side note researching old threads I noticed UMI performance member profile is banned. Any reason why?
Will post up when I get these in. Before anyone asks. No I didn't take the motor out for just this reason. Been chasing a small, what I thought was a rear main seal leak and ended up being a rear lip seal leak. So motor is on the stand. No I'm not that crazy lol 😆
I know I've read a few times on this forum of people having header fitment issues with non-factory, poor fitting (too tall or too short) engine mounts.
Do these look like they will end up matching the factory dimensions in that respect?
So here are some initial round about observations. The pass and drivers definatly mimick the factory with the drivers side being shorter than the pass side engine clamshell. But, big but they are not identical. Both are shorter than factory. So I was scratching my head. They make up the height with the k member actual motor mounts. They are taller than factory or in my case the es poly mounts. I guess it gets you to the same spot with the actual bolt being in the same spot in the poly mount as factory. I like the design of the UMI poly mounts no tabs, but when installing you cannot rest the motor on them before bolting in because no tabs to lay on. But the tabs on the ES poly mounts although they mimick stock they are shorter in length and its hit of miss when laying the engine in. Ive phoned ES about this and there answer was : cut them off. 😆 In my case I need to see if the motor will be in the exact spot it is in now because of custom exhaust and such was designed on the old ES mounts. Will update with actual measurements soon.
So intial measurements on a caliper and I have my ballpark findings. We all know the ES mounts raise the engine which is a big negative. I have actually cracked my wiper motor cover taking the motor out by hitting the valve cover, it was a nightmare with the super ram engine I had. Plus countless stories of Y pipes up against the oil pan because of this.That being said when all is said and done the UMI mounts come out .2 inches shorter. This is a definite plus here. I have some original gm rubber mounts stored away I purchased from the dealership years ago. Brand new. I am going to get a measurement off these because I am thinking UMI very closely copied the factory measurements and geometry vs ES. Anyone who is anyone who has installed ES mounts know they raise the motor. You ha e to zip tie the clamshell just to get the mount to close on the ES poly mount. Plus the fact they deflect very little with the engine weight on it vs rubber. I know the UMI mounts will deflect less as well with the weight. But it seems they designed it this way to accomodate the poly material vs stock. .2 is basically not alot to throw alignment off on my exhaust. Its a step in the right direction. I always felt the ES mounts were a necessary evil and they always denied it raised the engine. But it does.
My initial recommendation is a definite buy.. When I get the motor back in it will be measured again for a final review. I will post the caliper measurements tomorrow.. Getting late.
