Is this another ebay scam, please help before I buy

Here it is, im pretty sure it's real but im a first time ebay buyer and and just want to make sure im not being scamed. I also read a thread where one of us did get scamed on a second chance option for a LS1. This is also a second chance option for me. So please look at this and give me your in put Thanks!!

Good news! The following eBay item on which you placed a bid for US $5,600.01 is now available for purchase:

1985 Chevrolet : Camaro iroc z
Item number: 4635820191
Bid Amount: US $5,600.01
Date of bid: May-06-06 19:29:27 PDT Don't let this get away!

Second Chance Offer

The seller joegoodman7 (bom0@aol.com) is making this Second Chance Offer because the high bidder was either unable to complete the transaction or the seller has a duplicate item for sale.
The selling of this item through Second Chance Offer is in compliance with eBay policy; you will be able to exchange Feedback with the seller and will be eligible for all eBay services associated with a transaction, such as fraud protection.

• Complete your eBay transaction in 4 easy steps:
eBay accepts the transaction and offers purchase protection to the buyer (if the transaction is declined, no further action is required from the buyer.
The buyer sends payment to the eBay Agent associated with this transaction. After the payment is received, eBay will confirm to seller that the money have been received and eBay will request the seller to ship. After beeing notified, the seller has three business days to ship and to provide tracking information both to buyer and eBay. If the shipping does not take place, transaction is canceled and a full refund is immediately sent to the buyer;
Buyer receives the merchandise and has five days to inspect it before confirming to eBay. If it is complete and as described, the buyer should accept the merchandise and release the money to be paid to seller. If the buyer refuses the merchandise, the buyer must ship the merchandise back to the seller within three business days and has to provide tracking information both to seller and eBay.
After the inspection period is over, the buyer must contact eBay with the result of the inspection. If the buyer refuses the merchandise, the refund will be sent to the buyer after the tracking number for the returned shipment is verified.

Congrats on an awesome find

it sounds like you got a legit deal. the price you're going to pay for the car seems fair, the car seems to be in excellent condition...i bought a vehicle from an online seller, i flew out and drove it back.....it was awesome.....however.......MAKE SURE THAT YOU SEARCH THE VEHICLE THOROUGHLY BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT ANYWHERE...especially ALL ashtrays and inside the fuse box........trust me

Thanks, Im just really un-easy doing this, not because of anything the seller has done but because the only reason I even got a ebay account was to buy this car, so im a first time user and just feel open to a scam.

The bad thing is, is im in S. Korea with two months left to go on a one year tour. The car will have to be taken to my wife and tested, ill let her know your advise, thanks again!

I assume you are the buchheit1268 user ID. You need to make direct contact with the seller if you feel this is not a scam, because from what I see it looks like some one is going to take your money! Do not ever do Ebay business over Western Union. Paypal or USPS postal money order only. If you want an answer go to ebays web site and punch in the item number. When the page comes up you can double click on either the sellers ID name or the winning bidders ID name and it will allow you to email that person. You should ask either of them if the actual transaction took place.

That agent stuff sure seems like bologna!

I personally would not go with a second chance offer without verification in person or on the telephone.

MY 2 cents

One more time in case you missed it in the LS1 thread.

SECOND CHANCE OFFERS ARE STILL EBAY AUCTIONS!!!!!! When you get a legit second chance offer, you will go to ebay to a certain item number that only YOU can bid on. It will be the same auction with the same information, with the same payment methods, with the same everything. You will have 1-3 days to make a decision if you want to take the second chance offer. If you want to take the second chance offer, you will STILL NEED TO BID on the auction and WIN THE AUCTION.

NO SECOND CHANCE OFFERS WILL EVER BE HANDLED DIRECTLY WITH ANOTHER PERSON, IT HAS TO GO THROUGH EBAYS WEBSITE.

The email you received is 100% a scam. Contact Ebay with the email and the 'agents' information and let them deal with him. If you choose to still send this guy money, you WILL lose it.

ebay does not help with western union payments if they take you for the money ask the seller if you can pay paypal or cash when you pick up.with them wanting westren union i would say it has to be a scam. if it is indeed a legit email it should also be in your my ebay messages. hope this helps

I also asked the guy contacting me who is the "seller" I hope to send me certain pics of the car that wasn't posted on the ebay add, and to also send me pics of the VIN and RPO codes, now if this doesnt mean anything then oh-well. But if he does then I know it is the seller of the item if the VIN matches and RPO codes match the car and options.

Dude! No offense, but are you nuts?? We've all told you it's a scam, Ebay's told you it's a scam.. It's a scam.. Quit pursuing it, he won't email you back or he will insist on Western Union. Keep going and he'll snag you in another scam somehow.

You did the right thing! You checked first.
Don't let it bother you. The car probably doesn't even exist.
there's lots of that crap going on, you need to watch and be sure things are as they seem.
Too many people do not check anything out and then get ripped off.

NEVER send Western Union. If the seller is legit they will work with you to obtain the payment.
It would have been gone and there is nothing you could have done.
Pressure to buy and then send quick payment always makes me suspicious.

Send the wife some flowers with the money you saved
Good luck with the 91'

thanks! I will send my wife some flowers, thats a good idea

I am by nature a very trusting person, I have always given the benifit of the doubt to everybody I meet, I know it is a bad trait but I can't help it lol, Thats why in my mind I think that if this is all a misunderstanding that he would say "sure, I understand come on up and get it with cash in hand" You guys are right, I will drop it and leave it be and fucus on my L98. Thanks to all who steered me in the right direction, with out your comments I would have trusted this guy all the way to the end.

Respectfully,
Aaron.

• Payment must be sent by Western Union Money Transfer

Yeah, don't ever do that with ebay items. Even ebay states to never pay with a money transfer.

Another scam second offer

I was not around to watch an auction I was in for a Super Ram set-up and lost it by $25. I was bummed! So, when there were e-mails about second chance offers I was jazzed. I spend two hours figuring out this was a scam.

After my phony second chance offer came they asked for my address and username (that should have been a tip, granted I was a bit suspicious at that point) and manufactured an "invoice," which I am having trouble posting here.

There were several signals here that something was wrong:
 • I got two separate e-mails on second chance offers
 • The Western Union form of payment (A BIG WARNING SIGN) - the seller preferred PayPal
 • The item was now coming from the UK and not Kansas where the auction said it was
 • I noticed the shipping was still $40...being a UPS shipper myself I know there is no way I can get something that heavy from the UK for $40
 • When asked about the time it would take to get the item the seller said about two days...again as a UPS shipper I know that ain't happen' for $40!

I suspect the seller knows nothing about this, this is just a scam where bots or actual people look to e-mail the auction losers and see if they can make a quick buck. The two separate e-mailers kept assuring me it was safe because it was going through E-bay.. BEWARE!

Second chance offers

I received a second chance offer on a cam on ebay. Someone else outbid me right at the last second and sure enough I received the second chance offer the next day for my highest bid. They wrote in the e-mail that the high bidder didn't want the cam because it didn't fit their application. So I replied stating that I would only pay what the bid would've been had the other person not bid. The supposed high bidder then contacted me directly saying that they would absorb half the difference. I wrote back and said that I didn't feel like I had to pay for someone else's mistake and that I was going to pass. I got no more replies. So, to get to the point, I won't accept any second chance offers on ebay. Sorry for the long post.

TRUE second chance offers are not a "message from an eBay member," will show up ONLY in My eBay, require you to actually bid to win, etc.

Anyone have a reverse directory for American Fork, Utah? I wonder what that 'fax' number is to? Hrm.

This is getting bad. As many have mentioned (it is worth mentioning again) the ONLY valid method to verify a second chance offer is to check 'My Messages' on ebay itself. Don't follow any links to get to ebay etc, phisically key it into your address bar and have at it.

Have I mentioned I don't like scammers?

I made the comment above that in my case of being scammed with the second offer, my suspicions are that there are many different scammers working auction losers and it likely has nothing to do with the seller. Do not think for a minute that these folks are using their real names anyway!

This is true. The guy probably doesn't even know this has happened.
He sold his car and thought it was done with.
I've had people ask me if my second chance offers have been legit and I have NEVER offered one. So I'm sure that is the case because of the nice dollar amount on the item and the lure of getting that car.
Makes for good bait.
The scammers are everywhere on the net.
If something doesn't check out (or just feel right), you're better off not doing it.

I won an auction for a 1984 Chevy Pickup last June. I paid $5,500.

I found the item, noticed in my search screening that it was extremely local (<5miles away), contacted the seller, met with him (twice), he even gave me a creeper and flashlight to look under the truck. It still had the original undercoating Liner on from 1984.

Anyway the point is, I was able to view the truck, and knew the value of a very low mileage, well maintained and documented mid 80s Chevy pickup. The truck has no rust which probably adds at least 2 grand to these things if you know about mid 80s Chevy pickups.

I paid what I thought it was worth, AFTER LOOKING AT IT AND MAKING A DECISION ABOUT HOW HIGH I WOULD GO. It amazes me that people will buy vehicles, houses, boats, anything of high priced value without even looking at it.

In looking at the this camaro auction, this guy has perfect 100% feedback. That is the one thing capable of misleading everyone. Another point of interest although probably small.,,Before listing this car, this guy did not sell an item on ebay for 8 months (or at least that was the last feedback received).

Keep your emotions out of the ebay auctions, and more importantly out of stock market. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, guess what?

How can I be certain that a seller’s Second Chance Offer is legitimate?

Receiving a Second Chance Offer

To ensure a Second Chance Offer is legitimate, go to eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices, sign in, and click My eBay. The Second Chance Offer email appears in My Messages. Legitimate Second Chance Offers are forwarded directly from eBay and appear in My Messages with a blue background and subject stating, “Second Chance Offer for Item…”.

eBay will never send a Second Chance Offer email with the subject line "Message from eBay Member." If you receive an email pretending to be a Second Chance Offer with that subject line, it's a fake. Forward the email to spam@ebay.com.

Geez, I hope I don't get pegged as a scammer. I just sold a 92 5 speed shift plate at auction for $124.00! While I'm stoked about the price it fetched, the winning bidder has zero transactions next to his user name. I'm still waiting to receive his payment, and it's only been a couple of days since the auction ended, but having no transactions and such a ridiculous ending price, I guess I'm kinda wary as to if he'll actually send payment. Anyways, to get to the point, I sent a message to the 2nd highest bidder to let him know I'll be sending him a second chance offer if the winning bidder falls through on payment. I didn't want to send him an actual second chance offer until I give the winner adequate time to pay, I just wanted him to be aware that I may do so. I hope I didn't do anything unethical by doing that. What do you guys think? Btw, look out for a 91 "Z/28" that I noticed on there yesterday for sale. The guy claimed he was one of those "agents" you guys were talking about, and the car is a RS that somebody put the hood scoops, high rise spoiler, and Z/28 emblems on. It has the 110 speedo, and the 8th vin digit is "E", which is a 305 TBI. Way easy to spot if you know the cars as well as most of us here do, but a first time 3rd gen buyer would probably fall for it hook, line, and sinker! Oh yeah, his feedback rating was like around 87 percent too.

It kills me... I just recently ran an auction for an LS1 combo on ebay that didn't sell and had this in the auction:

I WILL NOT BE SENDING OUT ANY SECOND CHANCE OFFERS ON THIS AUCTION. IF YOU RECEIVE ONE, ITS NOT FROM ME AND IS A SCAM!!! Sorry for yelling, but I hope it helps someone from getting scammed.
And I still got a message from a user asking if I sent them a second chance offer. I guess the lure of a good deal is too much for some.. At least this guy checked with me first.

one of the best things to do I guess. granted ebay tells you how to tell if it is from the user or not but if nothing else that is the next best thing to double check with the seller

I guess the reason your posting on this site- is the deal doesn't feel right, go with your gut- there will always be another car out there.
