Pro-Built Automatics!

Just wanted to say that Dana at Pro-Built is a great guy and very helpful. I've had several transmission problems over the past couple of years, including doing up grades. Dana has always been there to help me get the right parts, giving very detailed information, and charging fair prices for his products/parts. Whether over the phone, or on paper his information is spot on, and will answer any questions you may have.
Thanks Again Dana!

This will save me from starting my own thread.

Thanks for taking my hard earned money and half *** building me a crappy transmission Dana! Not only did you not build it right but then you had the audacity to drop ship it to my door to the tune of almost $200 w/o my authorization; when I could have easily picked it up from the freight terminal, for free!

If you'd like to know where you went wrong in my build I can give you a complete breakdown. You'll have to pay me though $

In the meantime don't worry, I'll be sure to spread the word...there's tons of 3rd gens in the mid-atlantic.

Why don't you actually contact Dana, instead of posting this immature stuff on the forum.

What's immature about it? I'm upset and he deserves a bad review...as much as he deserves a good one for the good work he's done.

Your whole post screams immaturity. Not to mention at the end you threaten him with "spreading the word" and effecting his business. I have read LOTS of good reviews for Pro-Built and a majority of them recommending Dana.

It sounds like you haven't even called him to discuss your issue and work it out and instead set out to a public forum to put him and his business down.

I also don't appreciate you slamming Dana I my thread. If you have issues with him take it up with him on your own thread!

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

Did you contact the vendor to discuss this? If not, if you had a problem and didn't let the company try to fix it and just posted this you're a complete and utter classless *******. If you did contact the vendor and they didn't help you or offer a resolution then disregard my previous comment.

However, it's a bit tacky and classless to **** up someone's thread with a complete unrelated issue, just saying....

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

I should have started my own thread...please accept my apologies.

And just to clarify I think "threat" is a little strong. I know other third gen owners, if they are getting a trans built I wouldn't recommend him based on my experience...simple as that.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

I'll ask again, did you give the company a chance to fix the problem? If not then don't you think you're jumping the gun?

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

Well, I'll jump on the bandwagon and say you're full of crap, this is the first I've ever heard bad about Dana ANYWHERE and when mine broke it was my won damn fault. I'll be calling him within the next few weeks to get a rebuild/hard parts that I need.

Glad to see he's still in business, I hadn't heard much for awhile!

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

I've never even bought a transmission from Dana. However, when my trans broke an I couldn't afford to pay someone to fix it, Dana pointed me in the direction of a parts supplier and spent 2 hours on the phone with me as well as several emails chock full of tips and tricks to make this rebuild easier and stronger than factory.

Anyone who'll do something like that for someone who isn't even buying parts from him is great in my book. If i were going to stay with an Auto and I needed one built Pro Built Automatics is one of the first places i'd look.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

Dana definitely builds quality transmission, i bought the pro street version and shifts smooth holds up to a lot of power as well. it was build for 700+hp, but i used a truck case as well.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

Twelvz, you probably should have started your own thread to give your feedback. However, traditionally this board and its threads have allowed both positive and negative feedback to be shared in the same thread as long as it remained on topic, which was largely done. You have to understand, too, that you are going to be in the minority in your unfortunate dealing with Dana/Pro-Built as he has a fantastic reputation. I have owned three of his 700R4's and none have failed...two with YEARS of HARD use. On my first custom build he spent over an hour on the phone with me to ensure what was put together would meet my needs. Again, sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience, but if anyone needs further feedback on Dana/Pro-Built do a search here on TGO and you will likely find 95% or more that have had excellent results. As others have said, if you haven't contacted Dana please do so as the guy has been 1st class to many/most of his customers. Good luck.

Best wishes to everyone in this thread, please keep it family friendly and kind.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

Hmmmm, still no further insight/info as to what really happened, just baseless bashing. Very interesting that some simple info can't be posted. Again, did you contact the vendor first before putting this up? Have you exhausted all other options?

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

i bought a transmission used from another member. it was originally built by Dana. when it was shipped, the shipping company dropped it and broke the housing. the insurance covered the cost, which allowed me to buy another housing and transfer all the parts over.
I called Dana to ask what all i need that i won't be able to take off the broken trans. he said he has everything and would mail them to me. he asked me to look at some of the parts to see if they are worn any, which they weren't. he sent me diagrams, new check *****, plugs, and some springs...without even charging me up front. he just said, "whenever you get the package, just send $10.00 to the return address on it" which i did.
couldn't ask for better service.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

I am new to this board but do have a lot of friends that visit here.
I have been working with Dana for about 7 years now buying his kits and so on. I do know if you have a problem there is no better customer service anywhere. If you have a problem or a question then you should give him a call. If this is a liget problem it will get fixed. Dana is one of a handful that likes to see the customer happy.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

I will also jump on the bandwagon in support of my friend Dana. He has always been there for me when I called. I bought his Pro kit 8 yrs ago and like Thirdgen89GTA said he also spent countless hours on the phone with me insuring I got it right. By the way my tranny is still running strong to the tune of 10.54@131 as of 10 Apr 2011, but broke my DS so Dana and I agreed I should rebuild my tranny after 8 yrs anyways just to check hard parts. Other than that it still shifted fine and he still can't believe it lasted that long. So if your having issues contact Dana and stop burning bridges on the board.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

Dana helped me out big time on my LSX/4L60E swap! The parts and customer support is off the hook. I called late one day and he still answered the phone to helped me out. Great guy, great company. I know if i ever had a problem, i would call him first before posting and giving him a bad review.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

I have tried contacting dana several times by phone and he is impossible to get a hold of. I have read about people having him help them with there builds and being available for questions. I believe dana is becoming like ed at flynbye. He provides a service to the thirdgen/car community that no one else is offering and thus he is very busy and not as available as he used to be.

Use the Pro-Built Forums. He usually answers questions there within a few hours or days. I've had to wait few hours before sometimes a day before he could get free time to call me back.

Re: Pro-Built Automatics!

I apologize in advance to the moderator for reopening this old thread but any thread praising Pro Built Automatics should be kept open. I am so thankful for Dana and Pro Built Automatics. If I have any regrets, it's that I didn't go with him in the first place when I built my transmission last year. That would have saved me having to go back in now to fix the mistakes I made. I admit I was star struck by a great looking website that appeared so well made that I just bought into the hype and was all too eager to drink the koolaid. As it turned out, my experiences with the company that I used last year, were discouraging at best(I won't mention any names as not to intentionally bash anyone). I will just say that if every time you call a single phone number, you get a different person who has no idea whatsoever who you are or what you are looking for, so that you have to explain yourself to a new person each time, then you might want to seriously consider whether this is the company you want to deal with. Especially when no one that you speak with has any knowledge of the products they are selling.

Even while I was dealing with this "great website" company, Dana was there helping me decide what to do with the build. He was so helpful that when I did end up having issues with the new unit due to mistakes that I had made in the build, I went straight to him to get the mistakes corrected. I called Dana and left a message. He called back right away and after a brief conversation, I had my solution and he began putting together a parts list for me. Each time I have called, I have spoken with only Dana. He always has insightful answers for any question concerning this build and has been spot on with my order. One mistake that was made on my order, he corrected promptly.

The value of dealing with a small company, getting to deal with only one person throughout the entire process, can't be measured in dollars. The peace of mind that I have now knowing that I actually have all of the right parts and the best parts for my repair is priceless.

Thank You Dana
