Monstertrans.com?

Looking to buy a performance 700-R4 for my build, I lost the rebuilt tranny I had in the flooding we had here in September. I found Monstertrans.com and they have a heavy-duty transmission that handles 500hp and 450tq for $1100. Should I go with something like this? Does anyone have a transmission from them or know of any stories about installing one? I dont want to buy it and get it and either have it not work or not have it work for long. I only plan on making 350-400hp, and 400-425tq with my build so I do have some collateral from what the advertised limits are.

Theres the transmission I'm talking about.

Re: Monstertrans.com?

I wouldn't buy anything from them ever again, the tranny I got from them was supposed to handle 500hp and didn't. My car is probably 425-450hp tops. I raced on the tranny once at the track, the rest was hard street driving. It lasted about 5 months, and started slipping, jumping out of gear, etc.. They would not back up their warranty, wanted me to pay shipping to and from, etc. When I had a local performance guy tear it down, parts they said were in there were not, clutchpacks, sprag, bands, waveplates were eliminated from the clutch packs, etc. I could go on and on, but all I know it was an expensive lesson learned and I would not recomend them to anyone....

Re: Monstertrans.com?

Where should I go for a new transmission to handle my power then? Or would it be easier to just tear apart the one I have and clean all the mud and water out of it and build it that way?

Yep. Stick with Dana at ProBuilt.

You get what you pay for. And it costs to keep a 700r4 alive.

Re: Monstertrans.com?

I looked at pro-built. What do you mean it costs to keep a 700-R4 alive? Haha

My other option is getting a rebuilt kit, valve kit, shift kit, and a servo and everything else I need and having a shop rebuild the one I have now. Or am I just that much better off to get a pro-built one?

Probuilt Automatics is always a choice they are in California, ask for Dana, really good guy.
Where are you located? I have a guy here in Columbus Ohio who built mine that runs Buick GN Turbo cars that does really nice work, I can put you in contact w/him if you want. I'd stand by his work over any others I've seen.

Re: Monstertrans.com?

Im in central Pa, Bloomsburg. Ohio isn't too far away, and maybe it would be worth the drive. There's a guy down the road in the other town here that does a good job, but I hear that he tends to use old parts, so if I would go that route I would buy a rebuild kit and everything and just have him put it together for me.

What are we looking at for something like this from your guy? Think you can ballpark it? I just want something that I know will hold up to the power my engine is going to make and shift firmly and smoothly time after time. I would be buying the majority of the parts, so I would mostly just be paying the guy for labor.

Re: Monstertrans.com?

You can get all the parts through ProBuilt, they sell complete kits, from my guy 1500-2000, I'd say, he really likes people to use Continental Torque convertors, they are priceyt and you'd have to add that to the purchase price or supply your own convertor....

Re: Monstertrans.com?

I'm going to order the Pro-Street rebuild kit and go from there. I know its kinda overkill for something in the power range I want to hit, but I think its good insurance and will make the transmission shift smooth and firm for years to come, no matter what kind of a beating I subject it to. The kit is rated for 675hp, and I figure for another $100 on a rebuild kit I go from being rated from 500hp to almost another 200, so its money well spent.

Re: Monstertrans.com?

My biggest fears with my build are valvetrain problems, knocking engines, and transmission problems. I know I can knock out the transmission issues if I get it built good with something like the pro-built kits, and I'm working on my valvetrain. Other than that the car should be good. I have worried about the 7 5/8ths rear in our cars, but most people have said that as long as I don't put slicks on it I should be good with it and that much power through it. Hopefully that will be the case.
