Sears tires
Well I'm ready to strangle a few people at the local sears. Ordered a full set of Pirelli vizzolas 2 weeks ago. Called last week, after 3 tries I finally got ahold of somebody who didnt hang up on me. No idea what happened to my order. Say theyll find out what happened. So now I called again yesterday, 3 more tries. Put on hold. Forgotten, hung up on etc. Finally get somebody, they say theyll look into it and call me right back. No call. Called again today, get a young woman who sounds like she just started working, but at least she went and got somebody else to help. This guy talked better than the rest of the bozos, he took more info, including who originally took my order. But he too is going to call me back. No idea if thatll happen.
Id go in there in person but its a 45min. trip. Was really hoping to use my sears card, to save my visa for christmas...but might have to go to a real tire store.

Serves you right for going to Sears.

On second thought, maybe you had no other
option. Try www.tirerack.com

Take it as a lesson learned. Sears is notorious for marking up the same tires you can get yourself for about 20% less. Then they overcharge for service and roadhazard warranty. About 10 years ago Sears was involved in some deceptive service practices that got national attention. I just bought tires online from a great source. A local shop should mount and balance them for about $10 to $15 a piece.

Hmm, completely different experience than I had. I called several local tire stores for their best price on the Michelin MXV4 Energy tires my wife uses on her Volvo. I always ask for the price "out the door", including tax, disposal fee, mount, balance, stems, etc. Then I called Sears, their price was higher, but he said they woud price match. All I had was the Post-it-Note I'd written the prices and phone numbers on. They called the store to confirm the price and matched it. Then they gave me a $5 coupon for my next visit. Same experience when I ordered Falken's for my RS. They price matched. Ordered the tires on Saturday and got them mounted on Tuesday. Too bad the store is so far from you. I think you will get better service by visiting the store. Good luck, Lon.

Well I finally got ahold of somebody there whos going to actually help. Took 2 days and several more tries but a young woman who sounded like she might be new there answered. She finally called the warehouse to see whats up. She said that they'd been ordered but never sent out. (Personally I think the other guy never ordered them) So she re-ordered them, they told her they'll be here in 5 working days. hope so.
Anyway I feel like I got a decent deal on the price. I ordered a set of Pirelli P8000s 245/50/16. for $125 apiece. mounting and balancing was $40 and screw the road hazard theyre too far away to fix the flats anyway. If I wreck a tire i'll just have to buy another.

Should have qualified my reply with the fact that it is entirely dependant upon your local store. California is where all the trouble started so those guys are probably on their best behavior still. Also depends on how large the store's automotive department is. Also how much were your Falkens. I got mine for 51.00 plus 8.00 shipping (ea) on the net. ZIEX 225/60/15. Mounted them myself.
Pirelli International doesn't list a P8000. Here's why...Sears has leading tire manufactures produce tires for them and place a "Sears" only label on them. The P7000 supersport is Pirelli premier passenger tire...so Sears has them build a tire for them and put a higher number on it. Better tire right? Maybe, maybe not. You would have to look at the tire's rating to do an accurate comparison. P7000 is a 320AA rated tire. The following is an explantion of the rating system. Treadwear receives a comparative rating based on wear rate of the the tire in field testing following a government specified course. For example, a tire grade of 150 wears 1.5 times as long as a tire graded 100. Actual performance of the tire can vary significantly depending on conditions, driving habits, care, road characteristics, and climate. Traction=
Straight-a-head wet braking traction has been represented by a grade of A, B, or C with A being the highest. In 1997 a new top rating of "AA" has been introduced to indicate even greater wet braking traction. However, due to its newness, this grade will probably be applied initially to new tire lines as they are introduced and later to existing lines which excel in wet braking, but had been limited to the previous top grade of "A". Traction grades do not indicate wet cornering ability.
Temperature resistance is graded A, B or C. It represents the tire's resistance to the heat generated by running at high speed. Grade C is the minimum level of performance for all passenger car tires as set under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. This grade is established for a tire that is properly inflated and not overloaded.
Long post, but hope it helps. P7000s are 125.00 from Tirerack and 122.00 from Vulcantire for reference.

The P8000 is only sold through sears in the US. It is the same as the P5000 Drago in Europe however. Its got a sortof aquatred design. You can get them in either H or Z ratings. The H rating is a 50,000mile tire the Z is 40,000. It rains 140" a year where I live so the rain tread is a good deal. I got the H rated. My last set was cooper Z rated vipers. They werent as good as the set of cooper H rated I had before that. Was kindof disappointed. Friends who have had pirellis liked em so I thought I'd give them a try.

They didnt know the wheel difference at sears either. Last time I went there, before the guy set the car down I had to ask if he put the wheels in the right places. WHat?? Sure enough he didnt. Switched them around. Then I had to have them rebalanced because they balanced them all the same. Only reason I'm going there is my credit. Might just mount and balance them myself anyway.

Sears has to price match, its their policy to match with any local competitor. Find the best deal then tell sears you will get that price. This works great on 10 percent off days (plus i get an associate discount). There are about 3 sears mall stores within 30 min of me and all seem pretty knowledgeable. There used to be NTB's (national tire and battery.) around here which were sears also.

Well they finally arrived today. I'll get them put on Saturday. Price matching might be a bit difficult since these are a sears exclusive. $125 apiece is the cheapest set of tires I've bought for the firebird yet. Last set was $153.
Hey how much everyone want to bet they'll be the wrong tires???

Well I got the tires put on yesterday. Hey! They were actually right. The guy put the wheels on the right places too. Course I reminded him twice but... Anyway the Pirellis are quieter, ride slightly better and handling is great. Another big plus, I drove it in the rain today and didnt hydroplane at all. Big difference, before you were literally fighting with the wheel. Now if they last as long as they say, I'll be very happy.
Glad it worked out for you. Hope they give you many safe miles of travel.
