wiring for aftmarket injection set up
my car was initially a v6, i've taken the motor and tranny out and disconnected the ECM and wiring harness. only the one from the insdie fuse box to all the gauges etc remains. if i could... and I might.... take the dash off and make my own wiring harness which only has wires in which i need.
but if i dont. lets a assume I still have my stock wiring harness on the inside of the car. I'm doing a sbc swap and going to use the 'mega squirt' ECM which seems pretty affordable and realistic. it used gm sensors which they list and thats it. wondering . how am I going to have my dash hooked up. as in my gauges.....
let say water temprature. will the wire go directly from the sensor. to the firewall on teh driver side where it goes to teh dash? or does it go to the ECM and then to the dash
also speedo?
tach?
oil pressure
fuel tank
voltage
just making sure. I can do this with out any hassles
i'm a carb guy. but want to tough this one out and go with this mega squirt ECM set up with the holley stealth ram intake, 58mm bbk throttle body, 36lbs injectors, get the adjustable fp lines

Re: wiring for aftmarket injection set up
bump.
I am in the same boat. If the leads to the gauges come through the firewall on the drivers side with that big group of wires I should be ok. If not, I may be a little screwed. Anyone have any input where the gauge wires ran to?
I all I have right now, out of that drivers side mess of wires, is the plug for my wiper motor, and the lighting, everything else has been cut off and deemed unecessary. I have left enough wire remaining if I need to splice back into one for gauge purposes.

Re: wiring for aftmarket injection set up
The good news for both of you is generally speaking the "Body Wiring" and "ECM Wiring" are usually independent of each other I am sure things like an electronic speedometer, and alternator exciter wire that cross the barrier, but that is easily tapped into. But just to help you out here are some wiring diagrams from 91 for V6 ecm wiring and 91 Body wiring. TraviZ it appears that the 89 wiring is identical, but I will double check.
Sorry for the crappy image I will try to rescan them.

Yea I was afraid of that, I can try one more thing, but the diagrams are from a Chiltons 82-92 FBody manual.
