Someone reccomend me a single plane intake

Right now I have a stock motored (most of the bolt ons) L98. I am looking to go single plane now to support some future mods. I am sold on the single plane as being the best option. The car will soon be getting a set of 3.73s in a built rear to go with the t56 so the low rpm torque loss is more than fine with me. I also have someone to weld up the injector bungs for me and make me fuel rails no problem. I just need to pick out an intake that will work with the stock heads (would prefer not to port match) and then be able to support good power later on.

Any suggestions?

BTW, the intake will be coupled with a 90mm LS1 style throttle body and an Edelbrock elbow.

Are you running one? I'm having a hard time finding someone who actually HAS one of these manifolds..

I started with a stock 84 Vette Crossfire. Phase 3 will be just that. I will have my EBL/ECU modified for port injection. TBI is getting a bit old for me.

Few guys over here run them, albeit w/Ford throttle bodies and adapters though....

Ford TB? Hows the ford iac work with the GM ECU? Thats pretty much what I wanna do. Use a edelbrock 90* tb adapter.

Any chance you can get someone to do some height measurements? I need to know if it will fit under my hood.

They're running Megasquirts, I can get some really good close-ups for you this Friday night over at Raceway Park when we're in the pits....

Here's a vid of Stenod Performance running the Victor Jr intake w/elbow on his LSX engine Click Here, clearance is very close with the stock hood (if you look carefully, you'll see how he cut the bracing underneath the hood @ 0.35), but it clears. Your vette w/the SBC will be a completely different story of course though....

Kinda blurry I know, sorry about that....

Re: Someone reccomend me a single plane intake

I guess what I'm really curious about is, how tall is the intake itself? I.e, from the chinawall to the TB mount pad. The elbow I want to use is for an LS1 TB and will point to the passenger side, so I can 90* right into it from my supercharger. I think I have about 9" of total work space.

Another thing is, what are those guys running for FPR?? Edelbrock doesnt seem to sell a fuel rail kit with crossover tubes and a reg.

If I can ditch the miniram and run a singleplane I'd be happy.. The miniram is a nice N/A intake but for my application it's a waste of money.

Re: Someone reccomend me a single plane intake

^ Summit Racing & Edelbrock have them measured at 4.580", I just spoke with a representative and they confirmed that this measurement was taken from the chinawall to the top of the plenum's orifice....

Re: Someone reccomend me a single plane intake

How are these options working with stock heads though? I figured the large ports on the intake would cause a flow problem with the smaller ports on the heads?

I have sold a few of these Pro Products efi manifolds and have been told they worked out very well. I honestly have had better luck in the past year or so running these professional products intakes. The quality has actually been better than Edelbrock here lately. Sad to say. Anyway thats my $.02

Re: Someone reccomend me a single plane intake

What about the fact that Edelbrock claims their elbows top out at 400hp?
(They may have changed their site but I'm pretty sure that at one point it claimed they all topped out ~450hp, but now they only list 400 for the box elbows.)

If a Ford TB is easier, it makes sense, but I was thinking of getting an LS_ TB and using the adapter harnesses like the F.I.R.S.T. Intake utilizes.

I only ask because I am similarly interested (86 Vette, 383.)

(Also, I heard really squeezing it, clearance is 9.150" from the front china wall to hood)

Like I said before, the tight radius adapter on a naturally aspirated setup might not be good. I'm running a supercharger.

Whats the retail on the SBC one (not the big cubic inch one), and the fuel rail kit with regulator?

Also how tall is it from the chinawall to the mounting pad? What port size? No dimensions are listed on the site.

Thanks!

I will find out at work today, I believe I have some more info on them in my catalog. If not I'll call them and get specs. They used to do the hurricane efi but I don't see it listed on their site now. I will find out some more info for you this evening.

I wish there was a generic price list because I might be interested in some of their elbows too, but without the ability to look up pricing it's a turn off.

Let me know Thanks!

Re: Someone reccomend me a single plane intake

My Holley Projection stands tall at 5.4 inch. Victor Jr is said to be 4.58 from their site. So I pick up .80 inch clearance. right now I have .01 inch clearance to hood with 7.4L TBI and standard drop AC ! I am in process of adding a cold air kit with a 2.00 inch bonnet and spacer or a 4 inch unit(Procharger bonnet). I bought both. So the port fuel injection for me does not require the right angle adapter so to speak. I plan on a sequentially opening 4 barrel on top of the Vic Jr. TBI is boring.

Just do what I did/doing, open up the Holley Projection to accept a carburetor, then throw on a 4-BBL TBI unit. I'm first going to utilize the stock throttle body that I customized with an adapter plate, then switch over to the 4-BBL TBI piece. Worst part about the Projection piece of course is the EGR, making it impossible to weld in injector bosses. I mean, it could be done, but with the amount of work required, it'd be easier to just buy the Victor Jr. Enlarged ports are slowly but surely coming along too....
