HSR distributor selection
Hey guys, building a 383 stroker with a HSR intake in my 89 camaro. I have heard that there are clearance issues with the stock distributors and was wondering if this would be a good replacement (summit pt# MSD-8489). Just wondering if i could get some opinions on this. Thanks

Re: HSR distributor selection

The MSD you mention might fit , but I doubt it would have much adjustment . 2nd it requires a crank trigger .3rd it doesn't appear to a computer controlled dist which means it won't work with the stock electronics.
Any remote coil small cap dist to suit a 3rd Gen will fit. As it is there is only 1/4" clearance cap to plenum with small cap dist

Re: HSR distributor selection
ok, so basically i should just stick with a regular dist. cause i do want the computer control and dont want to deal with a new trigger style. The MSD 8366 definatly looks nice, but im not quite sure what the jacks are for. Are they for an ignition box or hook up to a laptop? And would an ignition box be a good idea to add to the project?

Re: HSR distributor selection
They duplicate the orginal F-body dist plugs.
The 4 wire is for hookup to the computer for spark control and the 2 wire is the coil connection
If your Camaro has a small cap dist then the MSD would plug straight in.
If you have a HEI there is a $15 adapter harness and remote coil needed

Re: HSR distributor selection
i ended up just using a stock distributor from a 87-up and modifying the wiring.
