It's me again :)

Hi Guys,

Well I finally finished my trans swap and, although I am experiencing some minor issues, it was well worth it. I just took her out for a run down the street and wanted to ask some questions...

I put the car in 1st gear and punch it. The car seems to top-out around 4600 or so but (being me) I keep revving until about 5200 then shift. What I'm concerned about is it just doesn't seem like there's much "pull" in 1st gear? For the most part, it just seems like I'm really just winding to get to 2nd and not going very fast/far.

Is this a normal characteristic of the HSR? Or maybe something with my tune?

FYI - I have the factory 3.23 gears.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Re: It's me again :)

Put another tach on it to verify.
If it's a prob. at the same rpm in every gear, it's not fuel. Hang a gauge on it & drive.
You have enough cam, intake & exhaust to rev higher than 5200. That's TPI 305 rpm range.
Your cats are those ummm high-flow versions, I assume.

Re: It's me again :)

Thanks for the reply jmd!

My dual cats are the "high-flow" ones. They're several years old but are not rattling.

I was wondering about that... I thought I had plenty of cam, air, etc to get past 5200rpm but wasn't sure.

FYI - Right now, I have the timing at 6* and fuel pressure at 43psi. That's per TPIS who burned my chip.

Sorry for asking a noob question but if I get another tach, does it just plug into the distributor?

Thanks again!

Put a stock 350 TPI chip back in and try that.

Re: It's me again :)

Thanks for the reply guys!

I hooked up my scanner and the tach was only off about 30rpm or so.

I just spoke to TPIS and they recommended putting a fuel pressure guage on it and seeing if the pressure falls when I punch it at 3000rpm or so.

I haven't had a chance to pull the computer and try the factory chip yet but hope to soon.

Anymore advice would be great. Thanks again!
