I will be getting back to this project shortly.. I am almost done with my 4th gen bracket cars winter updates, and I have a 17’ Denali HD duramax as a daily driver and it’s doing typical Duramax things aka breaking down every 3,000 miles so new truck shopping has taken my attention away recently. But I have a new ram 2500 on order, so it will be here in 7-9 weeks.. hopefully the Duramax lasts that long
Other than a reduction in ride quality over the Chevy you'll like the RAM. I used to be a diehard Chevy truck guy, until I owned a Dodge. They have so many fewer issues. And yes, the transmissions are fine if you don't drive them like a moron. I have a fully deleted '08 and have 250,000 miles on it. Other than front end parts, I've had no issues with it. I've been eyeballing a new Laramie myself, but this one's paid off. Figured if I can milk it along another couple years it will be more bird money.
I’ve always had dodges, and I always loved them. My last truck was an 07 5.9 Laramie mega cab, and it was by far the best rig I’ve ever owned. I sold it for well over what it was worth, so I let it go, then I wanted to buy a new Laramie at the time, but my wife loved the look of the Denali nose. It’s been nothing but trouble. It has 26k miles on it now, it’s been through 3 steering gears, 4 tie rods, 2 idlers, a rear main, an oil pan, a dash harness, a gauge cluster, and a rear driveline. It’s all been covered under warranty, but I have zero interest in owning any GM truck ever again after all of this with a truck that hasn’t made it 30k. and I think honestly the 14+ ram 2500’s with the coil spring rear rides leaps and bounds better than my Denali does. I had to bash Chevy but the Duramax trucks have to be the worst rig since the 6.0 power stroke lol
Wow, that's a crazy amount of problems.. I don't think I've ever heard of that much wrong in that short of time with anything and all our fords have a lot of issues!!
RIGHT!!! and every time I take it in, the dealer acts like it’s all normal and tells me they see it all the time on the new Duramax trucks. The first few times GM even denied a loaner truck while it got fixed. I simply cannot wait to get into a truck with a solid front axle and a big straight 6 again.
Well this thing has been stagnant for a while, but I finally finished up all the loose ends on the other 2 hotrods, and sold off a few toys and got my truck situation all dialed in, and finally got back on this thing today. I started fitting the NOS 2OTL exhaust, and got the y pipe mocked up. I got a good push on that going, and am ready to get this thing wrapped up and running! I have decided to hold off on installing the dana 44 until I can round up a whole extra brake setup, and have the dana spicer dealer locally setup a new set of wheel bearings and seals in it and get the preload all set correctly. I don’t know enough about it so I will feel better having them set that portion up. I also can’t decide if I want to use the SLP dual cold air setup for the time being. Eventually I definitely want it on the car, but I don’t know what I want to do about the battery relocation. I’m almost thinking a pair of PC680’s flat under the battery tray? Or trying to get tricky and put and optima laying on its side under the factory tray? Not sure, but I don’t want to bite off too much at one time and I think I want to just get it running with the stock air intake for now.
Charlie, that's too much work for that air intake, you better sell it to me and I will deal that headache! why not just relocate that to the back instead of all that?
when I removed my 2 boxes I didn't realize how tight they fit in there! like fitting 5 lbs of crap in a 4 pound box

eventually it will make its way into the car. I definitely don’t want to move the battery to the trunk. I don’t want to put extra holes in the car, as well as I like take the car out to our local drag strip and bracket race it every once and a while, so I can’t put it in the trunk without doing one of those big cheesy sealed battery boxes and run a master cutoff switch that I would have to butcher some holes into the trunk for. I will definitely have to do something creative for keeping the battery in the nose!
moving the battery to the trunk is like setting the engine back 10" = better weight distribution and added traction!
I completely understand the benefits, but there is no way I’m going to mount one of those big cheesy moroso battery boxes in my car, and or jimmy rig a master cutoff through the back of the body.
simple fix dump the DCAI? or quit racing it? it's hard to have cake and eat it to
what do racing roles say about the gel batteries ? IDK im just trying to find something that works OHM Battery
when I was at SEMA Nov 2018 GM had their all electric drag car ... Gas engines are on notice Camaro eCOPO
at this point I’m crossing my fingers that a PC680 will cut the mustard for a battery. I’m going to get it all running without the dual CAI for now, and try a PC680 in place of a standard battery. If that works, then I’m in! If not, then I can grumble about it for a while before my next move 😂😂😂
so I made a little progress. Finished the fuel supply and return lines and the mount for them, got the y pipe mounted, o2 in it, oil pressure sending unit back in it, a few odds and ends done. I ordered a C4 gear reduction starter, and I started mocking up the cable contraption. None the less, I’m back working on it!
That may be the best alternative to running the fuel lines on this intake, did you flare the ends your self?
Yes I did, I just use the blue point in-line double flare kit. Works very nice for the money. I just did a standard double inverted flare then the borgeson flare to o ring brass adapters to run the stock soft lines with them.
I suppose there's a reason they didn't just route the stock cruise cable under the "plenum"? From that angle it looks like it'd clear if a person could fab a bracket. But I'm sure if it were that easy they wouldn't have bothered with the funky bellcrank/relay setup.
The fuel lines came out really clean! Nicely done!

The fuel injs are pretty much right in the way iirc
Yeah, I kind of figured it'd be something like that. Just a bit surprised they didn't screw a long stud (like the one on a Q-jet) onto the TB to extend it over to where it'd reach, or something... Idk, babbling. Just a shame to have such a clean setup then Rube Goldberg rolls in with the Breakfast Machine to run the cruise.
Ferrrrd would have just setup the cruise cable to snap onto the throttle cable LOL
The first cars didn't have cruise control or auto trans. (less weight? lol) sooooo when the color cars, end of 92 production and over the counter sales came around they had to deal with auto trans an the cruise being on them.
So on my “other T ram” the top throttle bracket has been modified for the TV cable to come off the top just like the throttle cable, I am not sure how or if it really worked, but none the less it is there. Maybe I should try mocking it up and see how it works? I’ll post pics of that tomorrow.
Well after taking the summer off messing with it while racing my 4th gen, and working on a ton of house projects, I finally had some time the last couple weeks, and I buttoned up all of the loose ends on the intake swap, and I got it done, and fired it up today. It actually runs pretty decent for a stock chip. It’s still open y pipe at this point. I have the 2otl hanging in place, and I need to adapt those 2 together this week. It’s definitely not what I am willing to call finished, but it’s atleast functional again! Super happy to see / hear it run. I will post a video as soon as I can button up the exhaust and get it outside again.
Got it on the ground, and took it for a quick drive today, definitely rewarding to see it run and drive! Still some kinks to work out, but it’s getting close!
I haven’t had much time to work on the car, but I got a tight fitting battery box fabricated, and started building mounts to hang it from the underside of the factory tray. Plan is have the battery relocated and evap can relocated by Christmas so I can install the dual cold air kit from SLP
It will be on the passenger side, and the charcoal can will be on the drivers side, I still need to tackle a mounting bracket for that too. I would have put it in the back of the car but I don’t want to run cables back and fourth and drill a bunch of wholes in the body, and or mount a master cutoff switch, and sealed box to be NHRA legal and what not. I do take the car out and bracket race it a few times each year so if I figure up front I can make sort extension cables and run a set of jumper remote terminals under the hood to connect the factory cables to. It’ll be waaaay more work this way, but it saves the holes in the car I guess
Well currently I have finished the battery relocation, that was a chore! Removed the charcoal canister, and mounted the drivers side airbox. Working on the passenger side box now, as well as mounting the charcoal can down low. I think it’s finally on the home stretch before I can have it tuned
Honestly it runs really well as is, no CEL or anything. I’m going to have a chip written for it and have it dyno tunes just because I have a good friend who can do it for me, an to keep it safe, also make make sure the injectors are doing their job. But it runs and drives great on a stock chip.
Been a while since an update, I had to take a break from this thing while moving my shop, but 2 weeks ago I finished up a few loose ends and put it to work as the daily driver while the weather is nice in the PNW. It’s a few hundred miles in and running great. It runs so well I don’t even know if I’m going to have a chip burned for it at this point.
Thanks Tony, it’s a very good car, someone will have a blast with it! Few small odds and ends need buttoned up but what modified thirdgen doesn’t?? I’m not in a position where I neeeeed to sell it, but we are looking to thin the heard of hotrods and put some funds together to build a new home
It did not, I drove it around a bunch, attempted to try to sell it, now a charging system gremlin has popped up and I fot frustrated with it, drained all of the fluids, pulled the battery, and put it in the corner of the warehouse to rot lol
