First EFI system on 84 camaro

Hello!

Last summer I bought an 1984 Camaro, original 5.0 H.O.

For 10 + years ago the car was equipped with 350 gm crate engine, zz3 with holley carburetor. Still have the original TH700R4 automatic transmission.

I live in Norway so the carburetor setup is not ideal for me, cold climate, and I dont have much experience with fine tuning carburetor since all the previous cars I have own had injection system. When its cold, the car is hard to start and is rough idling.

So, I have been reading on forums and searched about efi systems.

I came across the First Efi system and I liked the original look of the intake.

Now, I dont have a clue wich ecu or ecm I should run with a system like this?

Does anybody have any suggestions based on their experience? I want a system that is reliable and is good. Im after not the cheepest system, and not the most expensive system... my main task with this is to reduce fuel consumption, reduce the amount of time neccessary to adjust the carburetor etc, smoother engine when running.

I see holy have different ecu system like terminator x etc, but unfortunately that does not tell me much. Is holley the prefered brand for ecu system? I do see first have their own system called fast ez, fast ez 2, fast sportsmann. Anyone running these?

I guees i need the following:

- Efi fuel pump, was thinking about the in tank system that holley have.

- distrubuter ? Which is the best userfriendly and up to date these days? Msd? Holley dual sync distributors?

- Wiring harness with O2 sensor ?

- new fuel lines

- fuel pressure regulator?

- fuel Filter?

or is it better to go for efi intake system like holley sniper, fitech, edelbrock?

Im affraid it will be expensive, and I guess some of you will say to use the money on fuel instead and use it as it is 😃

Thanks for advice and suggestions!

So how does the car run? If you're happy w the performance why mess with it? That said, I have an 82 that had a zz4 with an Edelbrock pro flow system. It's was great. Now that car has a zz430 with a pro flow xt and it's also great. The aftermarket EFI systems are awesome. You will need an in tank fuel pump, I used an Aeromotive stealth system. It works all works great. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

the xt intake fits under the stock hood!

This thread is everything I had to do to make a Holley system run on my stock L98. Hope this gives you an idea of the under taking.

Thanks for the information! I have been looking at the pro flo xt system as well. What ignition system do you use? Distributer type?

For now I have a bigger issue. Started the engine after standing still for 1 month, and there is a knocking sound in the engine, seems to be from the top somewhere... first i tought it was rod knock. Really strange since it was running perfectly last time I used the car...wondering if it could be the lifters? Are these a common problem on these engines?

The pro flow system comes w a distributor. The coil is controlled by the computer. All you need is a coil (I used a MSD), plug wires and a fuel system.

Re: First EFI system on 84 camaro

I am running the Holley Sniper EFI gen 1 with distributor. It runs great and the new V2 addresses a lot of the issues with the gen 1. I used a 92 camaro in tank assembly with a 255lph pump and it works great. I also ran new hard lines and mounted a fuel filter under the left side passenger rear seat.
