Yep, I try to wax mine once a week when not at college since I leave the car at home, I use Turtle Wax Chrome Polish, has rust remover in it.

You put the wax on and wipe it off, it will protect for a little while.

Throw away the el-cheapo tips and spend the $50 to get stainless. You won't have to worry about rust and pitting anymore.

I have to bring this back up.

I have the "EL CHEAPO" tips on my car, 3 years now. There is still no hint of rust on them. Its called preventitive maintainence (spelling?). I just put some chrome polish on them every time I wash the car, and sometimes the car dosent get washed for a month or two.

If they are already in bad shape, get some chrome polish and put a little elbow grease into it, or if you have a buffer, or a dremel tool with the tiny buffer pad works the best, they will come out like brand new.

I would also reccommend using Turtle Wax Polishing Compound (in the green plastic container). Waxes will also work, but polishing compound will help remove any tough stains (much like oxyclean & laundry). I should host an infomercial...

I've heard that if you spraypaint the inside of the tips with hi-temp paint it will help protect them. Anybody else hear this or do it?

Hadn't heard of it, but I was planning on doing it, since the inside of them get nasty looking too.

No problems here with tips rusting. Triple chrome-plated. Little Zaino every once in a while (which doesn't melt off like wax). Oh yeah, and wash them. How many people wash their cars and don't wash the tips?

Also, as soon as possible after they're welded on, spray some paint over the weld and a little ways up the tip. If they're not welded, then get them welded and quit being half-arsed.

I've had my chrome angel cut megaphones for about 5+ months now (all through the CA winter), and the only thing I've done to them is rinse them with water, and cleaned em with a little windex and they are doing just fine, no rust at all.

Also, living on an island, we do get a little salt air flowing through from time to time, and even that hasn't caused any signs of rust... so.. I dunno...

I think it just depends how often you clean em. I clean mine EVERY time I wash the car (once a week on average).

WASH, AND CLEAN WITH WINDEX. SHINE WITH YOUR FAVORITE CAR WAX AND BUFF ONCE PER SEASON AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE. IF YOU GET PITTING USE BRILLO PAD TO REMOVE PITTING AND REWAX.

Turtle Wax Rust Remover and Polish.

I use an old can my dad gave me from the 80s.
I use it evertime I wash the car.
The tips cost like $5 at Canadian Tire (Go Canada)

The look like new.

So... basically, it would be cheaper and less work to just buy stainless? ;-)

Just messin' with ya.
