Window Tinting
Hi,
Don't know if I am in the right area here but do any of you have any suggestions on tinting windows in a 1988 Camaro? I bought some at Wal Mart and tried it myself with no success. I have heard they make custom kits for vehicle's. Have any of you heard of these or where to get them? The rear window or hatch is a real pain in the *** to work on. Any help you could give me would be appreicated. Thank you.

Go get it professionally done. The side windows you could probably do, if you know what you are doing.. But the rear window is a pain in the ***.. Where i got mine done, They used a single sheet of tint for the whole rear window. THey charged me $120 JUST for the rear window because the Camaro and Firebird rear window is curved wierd and is a very.. VERY hard window to tint by yourself. I personally would rather go to a shop which can do the rear in 1 sheet, instead of cutting 2 and doing it that way.. Good luck if your gonna try and do it.. i dont think you will like the results

I did my own (w/ 2 pieces though) and it came out pretty good for about $32 (costs of tints)
it is a pain in the a$$ though, but if you do it, have someone else give you an extra hand (learned that the 1st time )

Yeah, for as hard as it is to do right, its worth it to just take it to the pros and let them handle it for about $100.

My brother checked a local place for his RS, and they quoted him at $65 for the back window, that's removing the old tint too.

Yeah take it to the pros. Tinting flat glass is easy but curves NO WAY. One of my cars I did myself & was happy with what I had done but the trouble is quite often the tint you buy is no way as good as what the pros use so they scratch REALLY easy.

$200 is alittle expensive.
i paid $185 (20%)and that was expensive, but that was including a $20 kick back because the place that did it, did it darker tahn legal. legal in VA is 35% in the back and 50% on the sides, not even worth tinting.

This is 35% tint, that is what is legal in MD. I was told that the back window could not be tinted where those stripes are becuase the stripes are made out of teflon and the tint would just peel off. But when I look at everone elses, it seems like it is possible, so is it possible? It was a professional shop that told me this and they tinted my sides and back all 35% for $160.

thx guys that helps me a lot :hail: ... i think i'm going to go with 20% rear so i can see at night and 35% sides on my car which will be silver sometime in the near future
btw yes the stuff will peel that's what happened with the PO's tint ... he put scotch tape over it to make it stick
