Is this a good deal on a paint job?

$2300 for...

All prep work(removing surface rust included), primer, sealer, urethane paint, base, clear, wetsand, and buff.

This is from a custom paint shop who it just so happens i bought my camaro from the owner of.

He said the more I do myself, the less work it would be, not sure if he'd charge me less or not...

It sounds good to me, any input?

I've seen this guy's work and it looks real nice...he does custom truck painting...

The car's an 86 SC hardtop with hardly any clearcoat left and a few spots of surface rust...No GFX on it...

If it's a custom shop then I assume they do really good work. Probably as close to show as you can get with using laquer paint. If that's the kind of job you're getting along with body work, then I think it's a good deal. If they just fix up the rust spots a little, hit it with a couple of coats and sand and buff it once then I think it's a little pricey. However, doing it yourself would cost at least a quarter of that just in materials. Not the mention the months that it would take for an amateur to finish. (Trust me I just did... actually still doing.)

No, it's not lacquer, it's urethane...

Unless that "with" is supposed to be a "without"

I spent $2400 on mine and that required body work, materials, cut and polish, basically everything. But if it only costs you 1/4 of that $2300 in materials then you aren't getting the greatest of paint I'd imagine. Out of my $2400 I spent nearly $1000 of that on materials. But who knows...perhaps I got ripped off I don't know, but I do know the guy who did my car and I know he did great work so if I paid a little more then oh well...I'm happy with it so why complain. As long as you know this guy does good work I'd say go for it. You could always spend more but why? In my case my car is my daily driver so I figure it is never going to be perfect, so why spend the extra for a show finish...What ever you do just make sure you get a 2 stage paint job, not one of those crappy mix jobs with base and clear mixed together...you want base coats and then clear coat on top. Good luck.
