Quick photoshop question, need help!

I'm using Adobe Photoshop.
I have a book that says to "Double-click the layer and pull in the upper-left slider. Hold down the Option key and split the slider into two pieces. Move the right half of the slider all the way to the right edge, as far as you can move it. Then grab the left edge of the slider and start moving it to the right......"
What is a slider and what is the option key? I have no idea what it's telling me to do!! Please help.

Option key is only on a Mac as far as I know. The slider might be the scroll bar. I dont know what you are trying to do there but a layer is just a part of the pic that you can edit by itself. lets say you start with a blank canvas. K now you paste a pic of your car there. That will be a layer. Now you will have two layerz one background layer (canvas) and two (your car) If you paste in a tree of something that might just be layer 3. Learn to use the layerz cause thats what makes the program great. Here is something cool you can play with. Right click on the layer and go to blending. set the octopussy (I had to do that) to a lower % and watch as your pic starts to become transparent. Cool!!! Now Past some flames on your hood and make them kinda transparent. I'm going to read more of you post and see if I can make sense of what your trying to do.

I cant make sense of it. Check and see if that book is for a macintosh.

>if you want to know something usefull to do with photochop do this

>go to www.google.com

>seach for "photoshop tips"

>You will find some cool looking art that people do with that program and you should be able to catch on and make something yourself. Its really not as hard as it sounds or looks.

Trying to create lightening. It says to make a new layer, chose clouds, then choose difference clouds, then invert, then what I said above. Cant figure it out though.
