T-Top question......
I know this might sound stupid.......but how would i know if my t-tops are lexan or not? All i know about them is that they have a locking mechanism in them and they have a mirror tint to them if you look at them.
this is quoted from the tech data for 1989 firebirds ....
"Firebirds optioned with t-tops receive new Lexan plastic tops. The new tops are lighter in weight and tinted darker, but are more dome shaped and age rapidly. GM replaces many sets with glass under warranty, but the Lexan tops continue through 1992."
I dont know if there was a rollover period such as the 28 & 26 spline axel deal had. Where as some had 26 and some had 28 as a transitional thing. Someone might know more than me. In fact, I'm sure someone does.

I think that that answers my question then....cause my t-tops are tinted fairly good.......and if you look at them they have a kind of "mirror" tint to them. Plus they are fairly lite...and if i take my finger and tap on them they dont sound like glass either. Thanks guys.

Not too hard I guess, is it heavy or light? course that is relative, but if they seem heavy, they're glass.
If you tap on it with like your finger nail, does it sound like when tapping on glass?
I wouldnt mind getting some lexan ones, the weight saving would be nice.

Lexan are tinted dark, glass ones are tinted mirrored. The lexan ones have a metal band at the front and rear, but not where they slide under the center piece, glass ones have no band whatsoever.
I have a set of lexan ones I would consider selling, only thing missing is the key locks...I also have a set of glass ones, locks are broken but the tops are in decent shape.
pm me if you are interested.
