How to remove....

the freaking lettering from the side of my car?!?!? This crap is nasty, and it needs to go. I got the flames off, but the letters like to chip, they're very hard material. Any ideas?

Try a plastic razor, hot soapy water, and elbow grease.

You also might try a hair dryer, or a heat gun(be carefull if you use a heat gun because you can over do it and hurt the paint). Then when it is nice and warm/almost hot try useing the plastic razor.

Gawd those letter look like azz Hopefully you can get them off with something. If the above suggestions don't work you could always try the paint supply store and see if they have adhesive remover.

Good luck.

3M makes decal remover. It smells awful and gives you headaches, but it softens the stuff so that you can get it off easier.

Actually the best method was already mentioned. Use a heat gun, or a hair dryer to soften and loosen up the stickers...peel off what you can, and then use some Isopropyl rubbing alcohol to remove any left over adhesive. Always works great for me.

You are correct. I still wouldn't use it, but it won't really hurt anything just to wipe it on, and off. I've had to use thinners too before for some situations. Just have to give it a good wax cause it will fog up a bit due to the removal of any waxes. I have been detailing for over 13 years now. Most people would get really scared when they see some of the things that "NEED" to be done to their cars to get the job done. Detailers know what works without causing any harm. I've had some people here tell me that rubbing alcohol will hurt the paint too. .

They don't realize that the white haze that is left is because you have removed any and all wax finishes from the car. They also don't realize that if you put some more wax on it it will look better then ever.

nail polish remover works too just not the acetone one. that will harm the paint.

For thinner to work, you need to let it soak into the decal. Since that's obviously NOT stock paint, and there's no idea what type it is, I sure as hell wouldn't take the gamble.

My $.02 ?

Step 1: Wash the area around the stickers.
Step 2: Use a hair dryer to soften the edge.
Step 3: With your finger nail gently lift the edge.
Step 4: With the hair dryer begin softening the area the is being separated from the paint as you pull.

When you're pulling the sticker pull slowly and try to not pull at an angle greater than 45 degrees.

Step 5: Once you have the sticker removed clean up the adhesive residue with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner or the equivalent.

Step 6: Protect the area.

Hope this helps.
