finally, here is a picture with my exact color that is using a high quality digital camera to show what a candy shade can look like.
this is by far the best color i think, but i'm partial........far from boring and it shifts colors in different lights. you name the shade your looking for and i'm sure i've got a pic with a car.

speaking of a purple..........here's a color changing purple that can be done for relatively cheap. i like this color alot as well because it can be really bright or very dark.

Here's a question:
How do you think it would look if I were to go with a black base and then put some House of Kolors Kameleon flakes in the clear coat (some, not a lot)? Would it be possible to not have the whole car change colors, but instead have almost a color-changing sheen to it? Know what I'm saying?

it uses the same prismatic top coat (metallic basically) but it has a totally different base coat and a colored clear....purple haze is a beautiful color but it's a solid color where as this has all the properties for keeping a stock appearance but can go to a flip-flop on different angles.
i really like paints that can retain a stock appearance until the car passes you or you get a second glance.

in order to truly get a chromillusion color like the firebird above you have to use a black base and just layer the top coat..... colors like chromillusion aren't colors, they are almost crushed diamonds that give off a "prismatic" look. hense the reason that those colors can vary so much by different base coats.
you can use a nice black base and do a very thin layer of chromillusion to add a very cool effect. i don't think it will go exactly how your thinking though.
to get the look your wanting you almost have to go with a particular pearl as that's where the "shimmer" comes from.
if you could find an example in any color that gives off the idea you want i could tell you how to do it.

thats my car! well not actually, mine looks just like it (except my bumper is hanging low a bit ). i was going to just repaint my car mettalic sliver but now you made me want pepper grey metallic looks good, i'll see what the two look like sid to side and decide when i have the $ to get it repainted
. I like that red on the S15 silvia, the red with a pearl
Kandied how would you go about getting the paint to change only from a deep blue to purple, could you just use some pearl, or would you do something with a chromolusion, I'd want it to be as dramatic as the chromolusion but only with blue and purple
my comp was screwing up and I could use the internet for a bit as I wanted to ask this question earlier so I spent some time photoshoping your car, I have larger res one too if you want
and that other blue photoshop with the front gfx is also one of mine

it's very rare, i'll look though....that paint isn't really even out yet. that particular car has a sponsorship that paid for it.
i plan to repaint mine in that color, film cannot capture the color. it actually looks like the chrome paints you might see on a little johnny lightning car. very cool.
jimmyg very nice work....almost makes me wish i went blue...almost!
as far as your color your talking about, dupont makes it. its called blasberry and it's a shade of chromillusion....changes between blue and only purple. i'll look to see if i have a pic but it may take a day or so.
here give a general idea of what it could look like. blasberry

here is the same color using less top coat..........understand that blasberry and purpleen actually have as many as 5 different ways to change their colors as well as the amounts of layers can affect it's outcome. that's what's so fun about the paint. you can make it look however you want!
here is another pic of that same color but using a different meathod to apply it.
